If you’ve ever had to send your iPhone in for repair, one of the things Apple (or the authorized service provider) asks us to do is turn off the service.Find my’ or ‘Find My‘. To deactivate this function it is necessary to enter the password of our Apple ID, so that the company knows that it is our mobile and not from a stolen device.
Everything seems to indicate that it will no longer be necessary to deactivate this function to prove that we are the owners of the device if we have to send the mobile for repair: the most recent beta of iOS 17.5 includes a function called Repair State (repair status) that allows us prepare the device for repair.
The feature is now available in the most recent beta of iOS 17.5
The novelty is available in the iOS 17.5 beta 4 and comes to facilitate the iPhone repair process. As we said, until now it was necessary to deactivate ‘Find My’, a process that requires entering our Apple ID and password. The problem is that after the security improvements added in iOS 17.3, it is necessary to wait an hour before being able to deactivate it.
This is a problem if we are already in the Apple Store to send our phone for repair and we were not aware of the need to deactivate ‘Find My’ in advance, since we will have to wait an hour until we can deactivate it. Thanks to the included novelty in the most recent beta of iOSwe can prepare our mobile phone for repair without having to deactivate it.
In order to guarantee the safety of the process, the mode Repair State requires us to enter our Apple ID and password to prove that we are the owners of the device. Once the repair is complete, the mode we are talking about is automatically deactivated when Apple or the authorized dealer marks the repair procedure as completed.
To enable repair mode we will have to access the section Devices of the app Search and try to remove our device from the account. Next, The system suggests us to prepare the device for repair.
Without a doubt, this is an important improvement that will reach our devices soon. Although the feature is already available in the most recent beta of iOS 17.5, it is important not to activate it for now, since at least for the moment there is no way to deactivate it manually.
