And if you want to get the most out of it, you have to know all these Apple Pencil tricks that we have collected. They are great tricks of functions that will help you every time you use it.
Remember that Apple sells several models of Apple Pencil and not all of them are compatible with all functions. If you don’t know which Apple Pencil to buy, this comparison will help you, and now let’s get to the tricks.
Create quick notes
One of the most useful features of the iPad and Apple Pencil is the ability to take quick notes anytime, anywhere in a matter of seconds. This is due to a couple of tricks that you should know:
- Quick note from lock screen– Simply tapping with the Apple Pencil on the lock screen will open the Notes app so you can write down whatever you want.
- Tattered note from anywhere on iPad: If you’re anywhere else on iPad, in an app or on the home screen, swiping from the bottom right corner to the center can also open a quick note.
Take a screenshot of your iPad
A trick similar to the previous one. Editing a screenshot with the Apple Pencil can be something interesting, to quickly repair something in a photo or text and attach it to a file. Simply sliding from the bottom left corner to the centerthe iPad will take a screenshot.
Write in any text box
The iPad recognizes our writing and allows us write with Apple Pencil in any text box that we meet. Scribble or Handwriting It is a feature available since iPadOS 14 and is very useful. Instead of having to use the keyboard, simply type what you want to search on Google or fill in any text.
Delete written text by crossing it out
When we are using the Handwriting function, we can delete one of the words that have appeared after writing it by simply crossing it out like you would do in real life. One line is not enough, you have to smudge the entire word. This only works when we write and it is transformed into typed text.
Select a word or phrase by surrounding it
Likewise, we can select a word or phrase by rounding it, so you can later copy it or put it in bold or italics. Again, it only works when we type and it is transformed into typed text, not handwritten text.
Separate or join words with a line
If when writing we have separated a word that should not have been, Simply by drawing a vertical line between the separated characters with the Apple Pencil they will join together, or they will separate. It only works when using Handwriting, not with handwritten text.
Typing a handwritten text
This is one of the best tips for the Apple Pencil that exist. As if by magic, you can transform any handwritten text with Apple Pencil into typed text. It seems to work like magic, here’s what you need to do:
- Write any sentence with Apple Pencil in the Notes app or a compatible app.
- Once you have written the word, phrase or text, press and hold on what you have written.
- Now tap on Copy as text.
- Paste the copied text into any app or document.
Another option is to tap on the dial icon and select the first pen that appears in the tools with an “A” in the Notes app, anything you write by hand will appear as typed text. An amazing feature.
Tilt Apple Pencil
This is a great trick if you are someone who draws with the Apple Pencil. Simply draw with Apple Pencil at an angle and you will be able to shade and create effects similar to those you would get with a pencil.
Use handwritten addresses, dates, or phone numbers
If you see underlined a phone number, email, date, address or other data handwritten is because the iPad is able to recognize them and display additional information. If you hold down you could perform different actions with that data, such as calling that number or creating an event.
Draw perfect shapes
The Notes app allows us to draw perfect shapes. Simply draw one of the shapes with the Apple Pencil and before finishing, press and hold the screen for a few seconds and you will see how the shape is replaced by a perfect one.
These are all the shapes you can draw that your iPhone or iPad will recognize:
- Arches
- Bows with arrowheads.
- Circles
- Clouds
- Continuous lines with 90 degree curves

Sign documents with Apple Pencil
The Apple Pencil allows you to sign any document instead of having to print, sign and scan it. Since the marking options we have one that allows you to include a signature in any document. A signature that we can create perfectly.
Press harder with Apple Pencil
The Apple Pencil also has pressure sensitivity and this is something we can take advantage of when drawing. If you press harder, the line will be thickersomething we can play with in our drawings or pointing out some sections in a document,
Double tap to switch between tools
The second generation Apple Pencil has a series of very useful tools that we can switch between by quickly tapping it twice with one of our fingers. These functions can be configured from Settings > Apple Pencil and they are the following:
- Toggle between the current tool and the eraser.
- Toggle between the current and last used tool.
- Show the color palette.
Check how much battery life is left on your Apple Pencil
The Apple Pencil does not have a battery indicator, but it is very useful to know how much it has left so that we do not run out of charge. We can check the Apple Pencil battery in different ways:
- Battery widget. When Apple Pencil is connected to iPad, the remaining battery will appear in the battery widget.
- If you have a second-generation Apple Pencil, simply attach it magnetically to the side of the iPad to charge it and you’ll see its battery in a small icon.
Find a lost Apple Pencil
The first three Apple Pencil models are not compatible with the Search app, so if you lose them it will not be easy to find them. There are different applications that allow you to locate Bluetooth devices connected to the iPad, so if in Settings > Bluetooth you see the Apple Pencil connected, you may be able to find it that way. One of the most popular is Wunderfind: Find device.
