At the start of spring, Xiaomi is coming back to the fore to once again invade the market for entry-level and mid-range smartphones. The Chinese brand has four up its sleeve: the Redmi Note 12, the Redmi Note 12 5G, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G. And, for launch, they’re all cheaper.
We have been waiting to talk about Redmi Note 12 series smartphones for a few months now. Indeed, it was at the end of October 2022, during a conference in China, that Xiaomi lifted the veil on its new references with unbeatable value for money. They are four to answer the call: the Redmi Note 12, the Redmi Note 12 5G, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G. We had to be patient, but they are now all available in France. In addition, they all benefit from a trade-in offer worth 50 euros allowing you to reduce the base price by bringing back an old smartphone that you no longer use.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12: two models, including one 5G compatible
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 is the cheapest smartphone, with a starting price of 199 euros. For this budget, you will still be entitled to a nice technical sheet, starting in particular with a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen refreshed at 120 Hz, just that. Indeed, it is a real pleasure to see such a dale on a phone in this price range. We continue on the good points with a photo module offering a triple sensor of 50 + 8 + 2 megapixels, which includes the main lens, the ultra wide-angle and the macro sensor. For selfies, there is a 13-megapixel camera. Regarding the battery, it offers a capacity of 5,000 mAh, with fast charging compatibility up to 33 W.
The 5G version of the smartphone incorporates all the elements mentioned above, but the onboard SoC is different. The classic Redmi Note 12 uses a Snapdragon 685 that already offers great performance, and will undoubtedly be able to run some 3D games, but without pushing the graphics to the maximum. As for the Redmi Note 12 5G, it can count on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, a new chip from Qualcomm that promises to raise the power level of entry-level smartphones. In addition, the latter is obviously compatible with the 5G network.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro and Pro Plus: the move upmarket
7 /10
With a price starting at 399 euros, we certainly expect the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro to do better than the two more affordable smartphones. However, it will not necessarily differ in terms of design and screen, since we find the same characteristics, with the exception of Dolby Vision compatibility for the AMOLED panel, as well as higher brightness. The real gap will especially widen in terms of performance, because it simply integrates MediaTek’s Dimensity 1080 chip, which is already found on the Realme 10 Pro +. It is therefore the promise of a user experience almost without concessions, without slowdowns and without games that row.
Moreover, the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G pushes the interesting features even further. It retains the previous elements, but adds a 200-megapixel main sensor instead of the 50-megapixel of the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, alongside the 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and the 2-megapixel macro. The photos then promise to be more detailed and sharper, but to see if there will be a real difference, especially at night. The selfie sensor also goes to 16 megapixels on these two models. To finish with autonomy, both also have a 5,000 mAh battery, but offer a much more efficient fast charging system: one up to 67 W and the other up to 120 W.
