At the end of last February, Chromecast devices with Google TV received a long-awaited update that brought the Fast Pair to televisions to connect Bluetooth peripherals much more instantly. However, the thing does not stop there, since users can also enjoy another update for such devices.
This new patch is part of the security update program included in Google Chromecasts. The update, ‘STTL.240206.002’, comes to improve device security and experience after the January security patch for Chromecasts that was applied in March. Below these lines we tell you everything you need about the update.
March security update arrives for Chromecast
Last month we already had a security update with a single line of information: ‘Other bug fixes and performance improvements’. This latest update means practically the same thing, although the size is even smaller. 72.55 MB patch compared to 169 MB in March, according to comments from 9to5Google.
If the update has not yet appeared in the main menu of your television, you can try checking for updates by entering Settings > System > Information > System updates. Once here, the system will automatically update the device to the latest available version.
In just four months of the year, Google has already released three updates to its Chromecast devices. This cadence is already higher than in 2023, where their devices only received updates in January, April, May, July, October and December.
Although we already have Android 14 on mobile phones and this year it is the turn of Android 15, the rhythm on televisions is different and not so “orderly”. And on the Chromecast with Google TV, Google’s latest streaming device dating back to 2020, we are still on Android 12as well as televisions compatible with said operating system.
After almost four years since the launch of Chromecast with Google TV, the firm has not yet offered official details about an upcoming device. Despite the clues obtained about a supposed Chromecast in 2024, it seems that we will have to wait for the next Google I/O for the firm to show its new devices.
