If the AirTag is criticized for its dangerousness by some people, the iPhone and the Apple Watch receive praise for their more than practical functions. The new story from the beginning of the week concerns a snowboarder who fell into a crevasse and managed to contact the emergency services in extremis thanks to the rapid emergency call via the side button of the iPhone.
Apple saves lives with its features
If the Apple Watch frequently finds its way into rescue stories, this time it’s the iPhone that’s in the spotlight. Just a week ago, a snowboarder shared his misadventure in Switzerland and how the iPhone emergency call saved his life.
As he explains in his message posted on Instagram, he fell into a crevasse while he was solo and off-roading. Finding himself stuck and almost suffocated by the snow in this hole of more than five meters, he decided to take his iPhone to call for help.
Problem, it only had 3% battery left and the screen was completely covered in snow and therefore wet and hardly unusable. That’s when he remembered that the iPhone has a basic enabled feature which is to press the side lock button 5 times in a row to trigger an SOS emergency call.
Subsequently, the rescuers arrived on the spot to help him and the snowboarder immortalized this moment on his Instagram account. He also took the opportunity to recall that even with all the experience in the world, 16 years for his part, he is completely unaware of going off-piste without being accompanied by at least one other person.
Note that he could also have asked Siri to call the emergency room so that the call starts automatically without even having to touch the smartphone. It is still necessary that the voice assistant is not deactivated.
