We are a few weeks away from the Korean company planning to unveil the new generation of folding phones and half a year away from high-end phones, but that does not mean that rumors are not starting to circulate.
However, this does not prevent them from already working on the Galaxy S24 line, which will be launched between January and February 2024, and the first rumors focus on the photographic section. Cameras are a fundamental part of modern phones, so we expect improvements from one model to the next.
Unfortunately, according to a news story, the camera setup of the Galaxy S24 Ultra appears to be more or less the same as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra released earlier this year.
According to a leak from Revegnus (@Tech_Reve on Twitter), an insider who is gaining notoriety lately, it is reported that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will not feature a variable zoom telephoto camera, as had been assumed for some time.
The most expensive and premium model of the Galaxy S series will apparently have a quad-camera setup identical to the current one, including a 200MP ISOCELL main sensor, a 12MP wide-angle and two telephoto cameras (one with 10x zoom and one with 3x zoom).
According to the leaker, the only expected improvement in the camera is in the 10x sensor, which will receive “minor improvements”. Unfortunately, no details were revealed as to what enhancements these might be.
In April, Revegnus posted on Twitter that Samsung had plans to include a variable zoom telephoto camera in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, thus replacing the 10x and 3x zoom cameras present in the Galaxy S23 Ultra with a sensor that could toggle between both magnifications.
This would eliminate the need to have two sensors for a nearly similar function. However, in his new post, he has shared that plans for the new telephoto camera have been cancelled.
Samsung has yet to confirm anything at this point, but if the rumor turns out to be true, it would be somewhat disappointing if the Galaxy S24 Ultra arrived with a virtually identical camera setup to its predecessor.
In any case, Samsung could justify itself by arguing that it has already made a technological leap in its photographic section with this year’s models, as it has highlighted in its marketing strategy focused on its 200MP sensor.
