A recent report from Counterpoint Research lists the best-selling smartphones during the first quarter of 2024. Like last year, the Galaxy S24 Ultra stands at the top of the list of Android smartphones. However, he is only in 5th place in the overall ranking.
We sometimes tend to forget it, but if Samsung is regularly at the top of smartphone sales worldwide, it is above all because the manufacturer markets a wide variety of models each year. Indeed, if we look instead at the sales figures by model, the leader is undoubtedly Apple, its long-time rival. An observation which is confirmed with the sales figures for the first quarter of 2024.
Among Android, Samsung maintains its first place. Unsurprisingly, it’s the Galaxy S24 Ultra that wins the popularity medal. The smartphone even manages to do better than its predecessor, selling more than the Galaxy A15, where the Galaxy S23 Ultra was behind the Galaxy A13. However, the flagship is still far from the top in the entire market. Once again, it is the iPhone 15 which takes all the first places.

Despite its popularity, the Galaxy S24 does not outperform the iPhone 15
Here are the top 10 smartphones sold during the first quarter of 2024:
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 15
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 14
- Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Galaxy A15 5G
- Galaxy A54
- iPhone 15 Plus
- Galaxy S24
- Galaxy A34
Like every year, the iPhone 15 wins with almost all of its models at the top of the list – except for the “unloved” Plus model. Even the standard iPhone 14 is ahead of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which only finishes in 6th place. It’s difficult to be surprised by this result: already last year, the first quarter of 2023 presented a similar ranking.
It’s also not surprising to see the premium models, although very expensive, so high in the ranking. Indeed, the latter are often the most popular with users who buy a smartphone as soon as it is released. This is also where Apple stands out: its entire range of users regularly buys the latest iPhone.
