The iPhone 14, announced just a few weeks ago, are not selling as much as Apple hoped. The Cupertino company, therefore, has reduced their production scheduled for the second half of 2022as reported Bloomberg.
Apple, in particular, has asked its suppliers suspend the additional production of 6 million iPhone 14 that had been scheduled for the aforementioned period. The total number of manufactured units, once those six million have been deducted, would be 90 million units. A similar amount to last year.
At some point, Apple predicted an increase in demand for this new family compared to the iPhone 13 series. It did so, despite the economic difficulties faced by various regions. However, that is not what is happening.
The company, in this situation, will return to its initial plans, revealed last May by the aforementioned medium: maintain a “flat” production with respect to the iPhone 13.
Apple asks to prioritize the production of the iPhone 14 Pro over the iPhone 14
Curiously, the iPhone 14 Pro is outselling cheaper models. The company, in fact, would have asked one of its suppliers to prioritize the production of the Pro model against the aforementioned variants, assigning to said model production lines that were originally linked to the cheapest models. But what is affecting the sales of new iPhones and why is the iPhone 14 Pro, despite its higher price, being more popular than the base model?
The economic recession currently affecting China, one of the largest smartphone markets, seems to be one of the main reasons behind the lower demand. Other factors such as inflation wave ukrainian warwhich have especially impacted Europe, are also causing sales to fall short of expectations.
On the other hand, the increase in demand for iPhone 14 Pro vs. iPhone 14, it could be due to the important novelties of the flagship model. Among them, the Dynamic Island or the improvements in the photographic section. It is surprising, however, that the price increase of this version is not an impediment for users.
