Given the European legislation around thermal vehicles and the decisions taken by manufacturers on the electrification of their ranges, the electric car offer is becoming more interesting and varied, both for city cars and sedans. This does not remove the usual brakes on the purchase: autonomy, recharging time and coverage of the terminals. But you will no longer have the choice only between a Zoe, an ID.3 or a Tesla.

Regularly, we report in our columns the ranking of the most popular electric cars with buyers of new vehicles. For a long time the Renault Zoethe Tesla Model 3 and the Volkswagen ID.3 were the best-selling models in France. But other cars have since dethroned them. And, tricolor market obliges, the Renault group returns to the top of the rankings. The diamond brand is not only in first place, but it managed the feat of placing four models in the Top 10 according to the monthly barometer published by AAA Data.
The Megane e-Tech far ahead of the competition, even Tesla
This was the case in July 2022 with the Megane e-Tech, the Dacia Spring, the Twingo III e-Tech and the eternal Zoe. And it is still the case in August, always with the same models. The ranking is however slightly different: if the Megane retains the lead in the ranking, confirming an excellent commercial start, the Zoe tumbles from 3e at the 9e square. The Dacia Spring and the Twingo progress to 3e and 5e place respectively.
Renault thus left behind almost all the competition, except Fiat which, with the 500th, has been a hit since its launch. The small Italian automobile has gone from the 4e at the 2e place in a month, coming very close to the Megane. Tesla is obviously present in the French Top 10 with the Model Y, which has just landed in Europe. She enters the ranking directly at 6e square. Which may seem like a lot and a little at the same time: given Tesla’s notoriety, we expected a little better. But deliveries are piecemeal, which could explain a moderate sales volume.
Here are the other models in the ranking: Peugeot e-208 in 4ePeugeot e-2008 in 7eHyundai Kona in 8e and Kia Niro in 10e. AAA Data confirms the general good performance of the electric car market in France, with growth of 24% in one year. This is the only growing segment. It now accounts for 13% of sales. Conventional hybrids remained stable (27% market share) and plug-in hybrids fell by 9% (7% market share).
