The most affordable model from Apple, the 3rd generation iPhone SE would ultimately not be replaced. New information suggests that the 4th generation model will not arrive in 2024… but potentially the following year.
Powerful thanks to its A15 Bionic chip, but dated in terms of design with its iPhone 8 chassis, large borders and central Touch ID button, the 3rd generation iPhone SE (released in 2022) should one day be replaced… It remains to be seen when. While several sources were leaning towards a launch somewhere in 2024 for a new version, Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malle are the bearers of potential bad news this week.
According to the two analysts of the British investment bank Barclays, Apple would have finally been forced to postpone (yet) the marketing of its fourth generation Apple SE. In other words, it could be that the device does not arrive on the market until 2025. Note that it would still be a “good news“, since other rumors indicated at the beginning of the year that this iPhone SE 4 had been purely and simply canceled.
New design for a new life… in 2025?
As a reminder, the next iPhone SE would have a brand new chassis with flat edges, probably inspired by the iPhone 13 / 14, and a 6.1-inch screen. The device would also swap its TouchID fingerprint reader for a notch, with the line of sensors allowing facial identification by FaceID. There would also be an updated photo module.
This would be a significant change since with this new model, Apple would definitively abandon the thick border design that we have known, in one form or another, since the release of the iPhone 6… in 2015.
According to other sources, the iPhone SE 4 could also be the first smartphone to embed the 5G modem chip that Apple has been developing for years in very relative secrecy. This modem would then be available on other higher-end iPhones, notes WCCFTech.
As for the launch of this SE 4, let’s just say that this is not the first time that we have heard of a delay in 2025. Not long ago, Ming Chi Kuo, renowned analyst for TF International Securities, had also indicated that the device would not arrive on the market before 2025 at the earliest. A prediction today supported by that of Barclays.
