The new Windows Media Player joins the Windows 11 beta channel. A sign that its launch should be soon.
We should soon say goodbye to Groove Music on our PCs, to welcome the new Windows Media Player with its brand new interface. Microsoft announced last November its intention to offer a new player on Windows 11. It has just landed in the Windows beta channel, after passing through the development channel.
This means that there are possibly only a few weeks left before it lands on the stable versions of the OS, used by everyone. About this, Microsoft writes: “The beta channel will preview experiences that are closer to what we will send to our general customers. »

The new media player can, like its predecessor, read both music and video content.
Also note that the player will integrate a picture-in-picture view with the cover of the album being listened to.
Media players, a hole in the racket
For those who are very attached to the old player, don’t panic, it will remain available in Windows Tools.
Windows has always had some difficulties in imposing its multimedia player, in favor of third-party solutions such as Winamp or VLC, among others. The antediluvian Windows Media player, launched in 1991 and updated as Windows versions were released, should have been replaced when Windows 10 was launched by Groove Music, but the latter was quickly forgotten.
At a time when the usage time of such multimedia players is decreasing at full speed, in favor of players integrated into the various streaming, music or video platforms, it is understandable that Microsoft did not make it an absolute priority when launching Windows 11.
