A few days ago, a dataminer revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 would be capable of running games at 240 FPS. At least, that’s what everyone was quick to say with the publication of his discovery. But the reality is much more nuanced than that.
There are countless “leaks” on the Nintendo Switch that turned out to be false. It must be said that the craze around the console is at its peak. It must be said that we believed on several occasions that it would not take long to arrive. Now, the release window is set to next year, which gives time to breathe a little. Still, this explains why the smallest bit of information is sometimes treated as a real leak.
In recent days, the Internet has been ablaze after a datamining tweet. On his X account (Twitter), the dataminer OatmealDome has indeed published a screenshot that is interesting to say the least. Above, we can see that NintendoWare Bezel Engine, the development kit used for Switch games, is now capable of running games at 240 FPS. Better yet, it would now support VRR.

Will the Nintendo Switch really be able to run games at 240 FPS?
In other words, it is theoretically future Switch games that will be able to achieve these performances. From there, it’s easy to make the connection with the Switch 2. But things are far from that simple. Indeed, OatmealDome itself specifies this following its publication: “I want to clarify that this is not because the engine supports [les 240 FPS] that this will actually be used in games. »
In other words, if the software part makes it possible to achieve these performances, nothing says that the hardware part will follow. When we know that Nintendo’s next console will probably be similar to the current Switch, there is reason to doubt that it will reach 240 FPS. On the other hand, there is good hope that we will see more and more games at 60 stable FPS. If the console actually supports VRR, the gaming experience promises to be the smoothest ever seen at Nintendo.

The latest version of the engine appears to support higher frame rates like 240fps? (The Switch can only output 60 fps.)
This only applies to games that enable the variable frame rate mode.
Not sure if the older engine versions also support this. pic.twitter.com/5kzm8aM8wx
