In The Elec have ensured that Apple will have to pay up to three times more by the new OLED panels than its competitors. The 11-inch OLED screen will cost 270 dollars while the 12.9-inch OLED screen will cost Apple about 350 dollars. This could cause the price of the final product to be much higher than current iPad models, reaching an estimated starting price of between 1,500 and 2,000 euros.
The production cost of 10-inch OLED panels currently is usually around 100 and 150 dollarsaccording to The Elec.
It is noteworthy to mention that, precisely, Apple had planned to adopt OLED technology in its family of iPad products because market prices were falling. Apple will pay triple for OLED panels from Samsung and LG. The reason? It will introduce new processes not present in existing products such as a two-battery tandem structure, a very thin-film transistor, and a hybrid OLED structure. According to analysts and experts in the field, supply prices will rise due to these processes.
From Apple they have already requested shipments of OLED panels to Samsung and LG Display. The company has left BOE, one of the manufacturing factories best positioned to handle OLED panels for iPad Pro, out of the supply chain. In theory, mass production will give Apple OLED displays of 10.9 inches and 12.9 inches.
