Some Apple Watch Ultra users are reporting a rather disturbing scrolling issue. Nicknamed “Jelly Scroll”, it occurs when the two halves of the screen are not refreshed at the same speed. A chronic concern at Apple, which we had already observed on other devices.
A few weeks after its launch, the Apple Watch Ultra reveals its first bugs. Apple’s high-end watch, thought and designed specifically for adventurers, is the subject of remonstrances from some users. In addition to the microphone problem observed for a few days (failure which also concerns the Apple Watch Series 8), a fortunately uncommon problem of scrolling is also deplored on the screen of the tocante XXL.
And in this case, this is not a first on an Apple product: almost a year ago to the day, we were indeed talking to you about an identical defect affecting the iPad mini 6.
This display concern, dubbed ” jelly scrolling occurs when the two halves of the screen are not refreshed at the same rate. It then induces a more or less visible tearing of the image when the content is scrolled a little too quickly vertically. In the case of the Apple Watch Ultra, the problem is particularly observed when navigating vertically in certain menus using the Digital Crown.
A very normal “bug” according to Apple
As reported 9to5Macthis display problem seems a priori much less common on the Apple Watch Ultra than on the iPad mini 6 last year. At least if we rely on the number of user comments on Reddit and on Apple’s forums. A prioriit also has the merit of not impacting other Apple Watches.
Two reasons explain why the Apple Watch Ultra is the only one affected: its screen is simply bigger and brighter. These two factors are enough to make the effect ” jelly scrolling » much more visible. And Apple is unlikely to do anything about it. Last year, when this scrolling problem was widely reported on the iPad mini 6, the firm issued a press release stating that it was “normal behavior” for screens. LCD.
However, a teardown performed last year by iFixit on the iPad mini 6 found that this scrolling problem was actually accentuated by the way the display controller was mounted.
