A youtuber recorded his entire expedition on the Titan in 2022. His trip to the remains of the Titanic was not without accidents or protocol failures, and could hold the key to what has happened to the submersible.
The youtuber Alan Estrada, known for his channel alanxelmundo with more than 3.3 million subscribers, lived a harrowing experience during his journey on the Titan submarinethe same submersible that is currently missing in the Atlantic Ocean.
He was one of the first tourists to descend into the depths of the North Atlantic to explore the wreckage of the Titanic almost 4,000 meters deep. In a video posted to his YouTube channel in July 2022, he shared his dive on the Titan, showing the interior of the submarine and capturing images of the Titanic, the famous ocean liner sunk in 1912.
However, during the trip, the youtuber and his team faced a communication failure which almost forces them back to the surface. Estrada described the incident and shared a summary of the sensitive moment in a TikTok video.
The problem arose after reaching a depth of 1,000 meters when the pilot detected a failure in the communication system. An important risk, since it is vital to maintain contact with the surface. After several attempts, the system did not respond, which led to a critical moment when they reached 2,000 meters, exceeding the time limit established by the protocol.
The pilot activated the ballast drag system to start the ascent, but unexpectedly, the submarine recovered communication. Thanks to this restored connection and not having released all the ballast, they were able to continue their descent, albeit at a slower pace. Finally, they reached 3,800 meters, where they could witness the remains of the Titanic.
This experience of the youtuber now resurfaces due to the disappearance of the Titan submersible, raising concern about what could have happened in this latest expedition. Estrada had previously shared his wish that they find the occupants of the submersible. and has clarified that the submarine has the resources needed to survive for five days.
Estrada’s previous accident and current circumstances have led to three hypotheses about the tragedy surrounding Titan. As rescue teams work around the clock using technologies such as underwater robots, answers about the situation of the submarine and the safety of its crew are expected in the coming days.
