The script that Tim Cook had prepared for the Apple developer conference remained largely on the path of expectations; with New updates proposed for the brand’s key devices. And there is, logically, the iPhone: iOS 17 is already ready to land on the phones of those who want to get their hands on the news. And they are quite a few.
The new version of the operating system for the iPhone begins its journey with a view to coming out stable with the next family of phones, the iPhone 15. Without us yet knowing for sure what these devices will be like, we do know the key aspects of their software; not in vain iOS 17 is now official.

Communication improvements
Apple has improved the entire set of communications in its system to not only enrich calls or messages via Apple’s own app, it has also introduced the call transcript to know what they are saying without having to listen. Something similar to what Google Assistant does on the Google Pixel.
With the new Voicemail users can communicate with voice so they don’t have to call the phone directly. The iPhone will display the transcript of the message and will give the option to respond with a message or accept the call and switch to oral communication.
Apple extends the capabilities of the Messages and FaceTime apps by adding more multimedia content, such as responses using stickers; both personalized and downloaded from other apps.
Namedrop, a new way to exchange content
iOS 17 introduces an addition to AirDrop to allow sharing of media content between nearby devices and knowing the recipient’s name or phone number. In this way you can send photos, videos and other files with the simplicity of a few clicks.
Namedrop is available for both iPhone and iPad as well as Apple Watch watches.
Autocorrect and dictation prediction improvements
Apple has improved the predictions on its keyboard to make it much easier to save keystrokes: iOS 17 predicts words and also complete sentences; so you only have to click on the suggestion to have half a message done.
iPhone dictation also gets a boost to offer a breakthrough in speech recognition and transcription to text. The entire process is done within the iPhone and without the need to connect to the Internet.
iOS 17 introduces Journal, a personal diary
The new application that enters through the front door of iOS 17 is that of the newspaper: Journal, that’s what it’s called. It offers a simple diary in which to keep all the memories, be they photos, videos or text; everything well organized, with an attractive interface and ready to not need any other third-party app: everything is saved in iCloud.
Other news of iOS 17
- We can activate the assistant without saying the whole sentence. No need to say “Hey Siri” anymore – just “Siri”. The assistant will activate to listen to what we have to say.
- Apple Maps introduces offline maps. We can finally use Apple’s maps application without having an Internet connection: Apple Maps allows you to download maps to your iPhone.
- FaceTime messages. The calls and video calls app opens the door to voice and video messages.
- desktop mode. The iPhone now includes a desktop landscape mode to have the phone on the nightstand as if it were a clock. This “StandBy” mode is customizable.
