It is not easy for the user to identify the current cable nomenclatures USB in the market, a connector essential in our team but that is not easy to categorize and identify by the average consumer and now the USB-IF wants to hit the table so that the schemes are much easier to identify.
And it is that the nomenclatures and schemes of USB connectors have already undergone changes in recent years, some changes for the worse that now want to be corrected since the organization itself wants to change them again, apparently now being easier to identify by the average user.
This comes in the form of new logos and nomenclatures that are simplified and only show and mention the connection speed and little else, leaving aside informative noise like the one we see today.
And in regards to the cables Specifically, they will bet on a similar denomination showing the speed and simple, direct logos, which also show the maximum power that they will accept.
On the other hand, the USB-IF comments that the SupertSpeed USB brand will no longer be present in any denomination, not appearing on the products or on the boxes, although the products certified before the change will continue to retain it.
With these changes, the USB-IF aims to help users better understand these data transfer speeds as well as the performance of the products.
Changes in USB at the end of the year
“As we began to refresh our brand, we did many focus group studies with many different types of consumers.”, tells the president and COO of USB-IF, Jeff Ravencraft, to The Verge.
These changes are now approved and should start appearing in products later this year.
