Also known as the command prompt window, this is a useful tool especially suitable for those who have some knowledge of Windows or could consider themselves advanced users. And leaving aside the graphical interface that we mentioned before, the commands allow us to carry out more complex tasks through the aforementioned CMD window.
Specifically, below we are going to talk about a series of orders especially focused on the configuration and use of networks. It is also worth knowing that once we know these commands, it will not be difficult to use them even if we do not have advanced knowledge of Windows. To access the tool that we mentioned from the command prompt window, all we have to do is write CMD in the search box on the toolbar.
Furthermore, it is recommended that we execute this built-in Windows application with administrator permissions so that we do not encounter limitations regarding its use.
CMD commands for network in Windows
Although at first it may seem a little more complicated, the truth is that the use of these commands will allow us to control the networks on our Windows computer much more. Let's take a look at some of the most useful ones that we can use.
Ping. Here we find a diagnostic tool which allows us to verify the status of a certain local or remote host. In fact, it is one of the most used commands in this sense. It will also allow us to know first-hand if we have connectivity at that precise moment on the Windows computer. Simply write the command as such so that all the parameters that we can benefit from appear on the screen.
ipconfig. This is another very useful command that allows us to obtain the configuration data TCP/IP network. For all this we only have to type it in the command prompt window. All the information we need regarding the current connection will appear on the screen.
hostname. The main task of this command is so that we can see the name of the current host on the screen. Despite its enormous usefulness, it can be considered one of the simplest network commands in Windows.
Getmac. As its name suggests at first, we use this command in order to obtain the MAC addresses or Media Access Control associated network adapters.
ARP. Through this order we will have the possibility to see on the screen and modify the conversion tables of IP addresses into physical addresses. All this through the address resolution protocol ARP or Address Resolution Protocol. For example, to view the ARP cache tables for all interfaces, we type the following:
arp /a
Nslookup. This is one of the most useful Windows networking commands that we are going to find. It allows us to diagnose the infrastructure of the domain name system or DNS.
Nbtstat. With the use of this other command, the CMD displays the statistics of the NetBIOS protocol over TCP/IP and the NetBIOS name tables. It should be noted that we can only use it if the Internet Protocol or TCP/IP is installed as a component in the network properties.
