The iPhone 14 Pro and its “Max” equivalent will feature 20% smaller bezels around the screen than the current iPhone 13 Pro (Max) according to new CAD renders posted on Twitter. This information comes the day after a leak reporting a 21% larger photo sensor for the 2022 iPhones.
New preview of the iPhone 14 Pro
Renders, shared by account “ShrimpApplePro“, show a design for the iPhone 14 Pro Max that is consistent with artwork and measurements by 91Mobiles and Max Weinbach. Much like those previous renders, the most notable changes include a punch-out and a pill-shaped cutout to house the sensors TrueDepth on the front instead of the notch, as well as a more imposing rear camera bump. Otherwise, the design appears to be very similar to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro. Renders come with a series of specific metrics for different aspects of the device.
The edges of the iPhone 14 Pro Max are reportedly 1.95mm thick, a noticeable reduction from the 2.42mm edges of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. One reason for the change could be to allow more space between the top edge of the device and the top of the new cutouts for Face ID. Concretely, the top of the cutouts would be 2.29 mm below the upper edge of the screen.
It remains to be seen whether this change will have a real impact on the customer experience. Last year, the notch reduction puzzled many users, with the difference ultimately making no difference. On the other hand, the disappearance of the notch combined with thinner borders would make it possible to take advantage of additional usable space. From there to Apple increasing the screen size without affecting the overall template…
For the record, rumors announce that the iPhone 14 Pro should benefit from several new features such as the A16 chip, 8 GB of RAM, a new Face ID, a 48 megapixel camera and a titanium chassis, while that the classic iPhone 14s would remain docked with the same A15 chip as the iPhone 13s and very few changes elsewhere.
