They are Samsung’s high-end phones for this 2022 and have already passed through the hands of experts, who rate their assembly, repair capacity and materials. Will the Korean flagship pass with flying colors?
As you well know, the people of Samsung launched the Galaxy S22 a few weeks ago, of which we have already analyzed in this magazine the Galaxy S22 Ultra model, which is the one who takes the reins of the extinct Note range, and the Galaxy S22 Plus, the normal model but with a larger screen size.
And, as a good launch expected, the good folks at iFixit have done their job tearing down the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S22. Among the discoveries made by the team of engineers we have that Samsung’s flagship mounts an ingenious steam chamber.
As for the chips, there are not many surprises inside, since the usual combination of SoC and Qualcomm 5G modem are found (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in case of American and Indian market), Samsung memory or Broadcom connectivity.
The S Pen that allows you to draw and write on the Galaxy S22 Ultra has improved sensitivity, thanks to now it is Wacom, a company famous for its drawing tablets, which has been in charge of developing the driver Wacom WEZ02 digitizer that mounts the phone.
Unfortunately, Among the top three takeaways from the S22 Ultra teardown that iFixit lists below is that it will be very difficult to repair, even for the most experienced bodyshops, due to the copious amounts of adhesive and the layered structure of the components inside:
- New vibration motor: Samsung may be trying to pursue a robust response similar to the Taptic-Engine, without sacrificing as much internal space as Apple does. The S22 series packs a new linear actuator into its lower speaker unit for a new vibe.
- New steam chamber: Stainless steel construction makes this steam chamber stronger and more efficient, while measuring 0.4mm thick.
- Repairability: The teardown of the Galaxy S line hasn’t changed much. In fact, both the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra score 3 out of 10 on our repairability scale.
