Apple could make a big hardware leap in its next generation of iPhone…
After the recent and stellar arrival on the market of the iPhone 15, everyone is now focusing their attention on the next batch of Apple smartphones, the iPhone 16 models. There is still a year left before they hit the market, but now the first begin to appear rumors about possible news…
New information from Haitong International Securities (via MacRumors) suggests that Apple plans to give a big jump in the technical specifications of one of the most important components of your iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus in a strange rumor that, perhaps, and just perhaps, has complete truth. We are talking about the heart of your hardware, your processor.
Apple could implement a big change in the processor of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
The marketing strategy with the introduction of a new line of smartphones is quite clear. Provide each of the models with very specific functions to adapt them to the needs of each consumer.
So they incorporate exclusive functions and design features –such as the 25x digital zoom of the iPhone 15 Pro Max or its titanium finish– in the most advanced models.

The same thing happened with the processor of the iPhone 15 models (and in several previous generations). While The base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus versions included an A16 Bionic chip (improved) that was already present in the iPhone 14 Pro models, the iPhone 15 Pro range incorporated a much more powerful A17 Pro chip.
And, in theory, it’s something that should also happen with the iPhone 16 series. Or maybe not. A strange and mysterious rumor from popular analyst Jeff Pu suggests that all iPhone 16 models will have an A18 chip. Although perhaps it is simply the same A17 chip renamed A18. Keep in mind that Apple only released an A17 Pro chip and no A17 chips.
“We see the A17 Pro as a transitional design and now expect all models to have A18 with TSMC’s N3E technique.”
By “N3E,” Jeff Pu means a more advanced 3-nanometer technique. In short, Apple would incorporate an A18 chip in iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plusand would implement an A18 Pro chip in iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Makes sense. Now, it is too early to trust a rumor of these magnitudes. There is still a year until the iPhone 16 is launched!
- iPhone 16: A18 Chip (N3E)
- iPhone 16 Plus: A18 Chip (N3E)
- iPhone 16 Pro: A18 Pro Chip (N3E)
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: A18 Pro Chip (N3E)
A rumor, without a doubt, very strange. Possible? Yes. But strange? Also. If it is not a mere change of nomenclature, The jump from the A16 Bionic chip to the A18 chip will imply a great revolution in performance of the base iPhone 16. What’s your opinion about it?
