Before revolutionizing the automotive sector with its electric and ultra-connected car, Apple intends to make a small detour to upset the augmented reality market. As we know, a helmet mixing AR and VR is in preparation, but also a pair of glasses that would offer a dose of augmented reality on a daily basis.
You’re not ready for what’s coming
Every intervention of Tim Cook is precious, if the CEO of Apple never reveal future hardware and software innovations to come, he does not hesitate to make a few innuendoes which very quickly inflame rumors.
Speaking at the Università Degli Studi di Napoli Federico II in Naples, Italy, Tim Cook told students who had come to listen to his speech that something got ready on the side of augmented reality at Apple. The CEO openly said:
Not too long from now, you’re going to be asking yourself the question “how did I manage to live all this time without augmented reality?”
During this speech which lasted more than 30 minutes, Tim Cook said to himself keen by augmented reality, for him, it is undoubtedly the next major evolution in our daily lives. The CEO of Apple did not hesitate to compare the progress of augmented reality to that of the beginnings of the internet.
Tim Cook who is (obviously) well aware of the progress of AR projects within Apple seems to be quite excited about future product announcements to come:
I am very excited about augmented reality. Because I think we had a great conversation here today, but if we could augment it with something from the virtual world, that would have been even better. So I think if you, and this will clearly happen in a short time, if you look back at some point, you know, if you zoom out into the future and look back, you’ll wonder how you’ve lived your life without augmented reality. Just like today, we wonder how people like me grew up without the internet.
Among the rumors that have addressed AR at Apple, we find a high-end helmet which would be called “RealityPro”the company’s first AR/VR device, is expected to be unveiled as early as January 2023. The headset has been in development for some time and will be Apple’s first major release since the launch of the Apple Watch in 2014.
Apple Glasses should also be part of it, they will be connected glasses which will project augmented reality onto the glass in front of your eyes.
The first project will aim more for use exclusively at home with entertainment and professional applications aimed at facilitating remote work. The second project will be more dedicated to indoor and outdoor use, you can take your pair of glasses wherever you want, much like an iPhone and an Apple Watch!
