Some manufacturers make use of their own operating system on televisions. This is the case of LG, which has webOS, or Samsung, which has been using Tizen on its TVs for years. Here in Spain both operating systems are only found on televisions of their respective brands, although that may be about to change.
As with webOS in other regions, Tizen would reach manufacturers other than Samsung. This is confirmed by the Channelnews medium, where they affirm that Tizen will come to TVs from some manufacturers in Australia, New Zealand and Europeincluding Spain.
Tizen is coming to some Aldi TVs
Specifically, some models from manufacturers such as Akai, Bauhn and Linsar will have Tizen as the operating system on their televisions. This would have been thanks to an agreement between the Korean company and Tempo, a Sydney-based distributor. This company will offer televisions with Tizen in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain.
The first of these will arrive at Aldi stores, a 65-inch 4K LCD TV from the manufacturer Bauhn. This model will cost about 699 Australian dollars (approximately more than 470 euros at the exchange rate). It will have Tizen as the operating system, and will also use native applications of this software. Other manufacturers such as Linsar and Akai will offer their TVs through The Good Guys and Harvey Norman chain stores respectively.
Tizen has been on Samsung televisions since 2015. This operating system is integrated into each television that the firm launches on the market, but the updates are limited to correcting bugs or offering the odd feature. This means that each new great version of Tizen is reserved for each new TV that arrives in stores.
According to the report, it appears that The version of Tizen that these new televisions will tell will be that of 2021so they will not benefit from the latest features of this operating system either.
LG also has a closed ecosystem with webOS, although in recent years it has been expanding its use to more manufacturers outside of Spain. Currently, more than 20 manufacturers make use of webOS and the company’s intention is to expand this figure to more than 200.
At Google, things change drastically, since its Android TV system is available on TVs from manufacturers such as Sony, Philips, Xiaomi, TCL and more.
