In a way, almost coincident with the blackout of RTVE’s SD resolution channels, La1, one of the channels that can already be seen in high resolution, has also begun to broadcast in UHD, the highest quality which can now be accessed on DTT.
Therefore, now let’s see which are the requirements to be able to see what we have always known as the first chain, at maximum resolution. What will it take to be able to tune it and what will be the process to access the new channel from our television.
DTT in UHD
Initially, the arrival of La1 in UHD had a date marked in red on the calendar. Initially it was going to begin broadcasting on February 7, but it was finally delayed and It was today when Ultra High Definition arrived to the first public television network.
TVE broadcasts the new channel in UHD through the multiplex RGE2 (State Global Network). A digital multiplex is a series of channels that can vary in each location. There are currently RGE1 and RGE2, which broadcast state public channels, but also the State Private Multiple (MPE1, MPE2, MPE3, MPE4 AND MPE5) that private chains use at the state level and finally the Multiple Autonomous Community (MAUT)for public and private regional channels.

The quickest summary is that the same programming that we have seen so far comes with better image and sound. In the same day, we have passed from watching a program in SD resolution to watching it in 4K.
But if we still compare this broadcast with DTT in HD, it still wins by a landslide. La1 in UHD has almost four times the resolution than its HD version, which is what will now become the standard version for all users.
And to start, when tuning it you will have to meet several requirements. The first of all is that your television must be capable of reproducing signals with a resolution of 3,840 × 2,160 pixels. You must have a 4K TV at home.
All the televisions sold from 2016 They incorporate it, so if you have a 4K television in your home, it is practically certain that it will have its tuner of this type and you will be able to watch the channels in UHD. In addition, some manufacturers such as LG and Samsung have been incorporating this standard since 2012 and 2013 in their TVs.
In addition, if you have a television with a DVB-T2 tuner you will have a TV compatible with HEVC video (High Efficiency Video Coding), also known as H.265, a video compression standard that allows greater efficiency in data compression compared to its predecessor, the H.264 codec.
Therefore, if your TV uses DVB-T2, it can offer content in HEVC to improve the quality and efficiency of video transmission.
HEVC support allows DVB-T2 tstream content in higher resolutionssuch as ultra high definition (UHD) or 4K video, as well as providing better image quality in standard or high definition resolutions using more efficient bandwidth.
Furthermore, it is advisable that the television we are going to use is compatible with HDR content to enjoy the broadcast to the fullest. It’s not strictly necessary either, but it will improve the image.
Finally, the community antenna must have the corresponding module installed to the frequency on which the channel broadcasts in each province so that the signal can reach our television.
And it can happen that despite meeting all these characteristics, can’t tune in to the new channel. A doubt that we already cleared up when talking about La1 UHD when it was seen on UHD Spain thanks to an antenna and electrical installation technician.
Summarizing what we saw in that article, it will be necessary for the community antenna to have the module corresponding to the frequency in which the channel broadcasts in each province, since in each location the dial varies. This will be the key so that the signal can reach the television.
Antennas that are not adapted have two options: or put a bandwidth that is a header that what it does is that it covers everything and includes all the channels for DTT, whether the national local or regional ones or else you have to look at which module they came in and put either the corresponding module or to the programmable header of the specific module.
Tune the network in UHD
If you meet all these requirements, You can now start the tuning process to have the new public chain in UHD among your stored channels.
The process to tune in to the new television channel does not differ from what we have always done to tune in to the rest of the channels. In my case, on a television with Google TV, what I have done is enter the “Settings” and then in “Channels and inputs.”
Once inside channels and inputs I clicked on “Channel settings” and here I have chosen the option “Automatic tuning”. In this case, the television gives you a choice between different options. If a cable connection is used, if it is a satellite connection or, as in my case, if what I have at home is a traditional antenna socket.
In my case it gives me the choice between “Set up a new channel list” that will delete the ones I already have (if they are ordered it is a bit more of a hassle to have to re-order them later) or “Update channel list”, which is the option I have chosen. The TV will search for channels to add to the ones it already has, but only the new ones it has found in the search.
