Read on to discover all the features you can use to make your iPad battery last longer. This way you will have much more time to watch your favorite series, play your most addictive games or control your home automation accessories without having to charge the battery.
How to make your iPad battery last longer
Let’s use logic. If what we want is for the autonomy of any device to reach its full potential and the battery to last longer, we simply have to disable all those resources that consume more energy. Therefore, we must bear in mind that, after doing so, we will not be able to enjoy some of the most important functions of the iPad, in this case.
However, it is very comfortable and easy to re-enable these functions and features at the time we believe it is necessary.
1. Background update
One of the most power-hungry features of iPadOS is the Background Updates feature. This feature allows the operating system refresh app content in the backgroundas long as iPad is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
From Apple itself they suggest that if you disable the background update of applications you will save battery. From iPadízate we recommend something more drastic, deactivate the function completely. Think that later you can re-enable it when you consider it appropriate. To make the iPad battery last longer by deactivating this function, you just have to go to Settings > General > Background refresh.
2. Push notifications
Push notifications use a technology that allows Apple servers to update the data of emails received in the Mail application so that iPhone, iPad and Mac users have the possibility to see their email notifications as quickly as possible… or not.
And it is that the Apple Mail application has a configuration that allows you to save a little battery on the iPad and other electronic devices. Since Settings > Mail > Accounts > Get Data it is possible to change the frequency by which the servers detect the arrival of a new email. But first we must disable push notifications.
We can make iPad get data from Mail automatically, manually, every hour, every 30 minutes, or every 15 minutes. The more time that passes between these checks, the longer the battery will last.and is that the function consumes many resources of the operating system of the iPad.
“The selected frequency will be used when Push is turned off, or in apps that don’t support Push. To optimize battery life, get updates less often.”
3. Screen brightness
Screen brightness (if it’s especially high) is probably the most battery-consuming feature on your iPad. Therefore, if you want your iPad’s battery to last a little longer, it is vitally important that you properly configure the screen brightness of your device. And there are quite a few options to do it!
First of all, go to Settings > Display and brightness to access all your configuration settings.
First of all, you have the option to use the dark mode. By dimming the brightest colors, the feature consumes less battery. If you don’t want to, you can also choose to decrease and increase screen brightness automatically or with the True Tone function. Thanks to these two functions, the system will be in charge, by means of sensors, of detecting what the ambient lighting is and acting accordingly by increasing or decreasing the brightness of the screen.
Finally, we also recommend you to access the function “auto lock” to make your iPad battery last longer. For example, if you choose to lock after 2 minutes, your iPad screen will automatically lock after 2 minutes without you touching the screen. You can choose between 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 15 minutes.
4. Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth
To increase the battery life of your iPad, we recommend that you completely disable the connectivity features of your device. This includes Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, and AirDrop connectivity.
Keeping all these connections open consumes a lot of resources in iPadOS, so we highly recommend disabling all iPad connectivity as long as you’re not using it. But, beware! Do not do it from the iPad Control Center, since they would continue to be active in the background and ready to reconnect as soon as they detect the connection (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), deactivate them directly from Settings > Wi-Fi Y Settings > Bluetooth.
5. Low power mode
Lastly, there is a feature in iOS and iPadOS that allows you to disable multiple system resources for the sole purpose of making your iPad’s battery last much longer. The low power mode feature is available on Settings > Battery or directly from Control Center, if you have the included feature and a compatible iPad.
The low power feature disables other features that we have previously mentioned such as updates in the background and the automatic check of mail, but also automatic downloads, the temporary pause of photos in iCloud, visual animations or the screen refresh rate.
“Low Power Mode temporarily reduces background activity, such as downloads and checking email, until iPad can fully charge.”
In addition, you can also create your own low-power system using Apple’s Shortcuts app and disable (or enable) all those functions that you consider necessary.
