The expansion of 5G in Spanish territory has not only benefited smartphones, but also homes: thanks to this expansion, Vodafone has the 5G Home service ready for offer high connection speeds and low latency to those without access to fiber (or they don’t want to hire her). The service will be offered with a new 5G router.
Fiber brings high-speed connection to any home as long as it is in a coverage area; in exchange for some inconvenience in the installation, such as wait for the technician to come and install the fiber. With self-installing kits, operators offer high speed on 4G mobile networks. So with the jump to 5G, all of those kits needed to evolve. As Vodafone has already done.
5G home: available in municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants
Vodafone has announced the commercialization of Hogar 5G, a internet connection with a new 5G router which is aimed at those homes and companies that do not have access to fiber and do have access to the new mobile connectivity. Even if they have fiber coverage: Vodafone will choose what type of option they want to hire.
With Vodafone One Conecta, the operator gives access to high mobile speed to those who do not have fiber coverage and do have 4G. With the new 5G Home the download and upload speeds, latency and network capacity They take a leap forward in order to bring the new features to the municipalities that have greater difficulties in accessing fiber. Or to those who want a self-installable alternative to what it means to hire fiber at home or business.
Home 5G will be available in municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. According to Vodafone, it is the first massive case of the use of 5G. And it raises up to 1 Gbps of download speed thanks to the FWA or Fixed Wireless Access solution, a way of bringing a high-speed Internet connection to those areas where extending fiber networks involves an excessive investment.
The 5G Home service will include a new 5G router that will not only take advantage of the capabilities of the network to transmit them inside private and business homes, This router will allow up to 35 devices to be connected. One of the biggest advantages is that the router does not require installation by Vodafone technicians: anyone can install it in their home to access broadband with a SIM card.
“Hogar 5G allows you to use the product as soon as you buy it, without having to wait for an installer to arrive and without having to modify the structure of the house”
At the moment we do not know prices or rates for this new 5G router and the 5G Home service. We do not know if Vodafone will apply download limits or if the service will offer unlimited Internet, as it happens with the fiber. The operator will communicate all marketing data in the coming months.
Vodafone will expand 5G coverage to 46% of the population in 2022
Coinciding with the presentation of the new 5G router and the 5G Home service, Vodafone announced that its network coverage will extend to 46% of the population by 2022. Specifically, the operator ensures that it will reach 1,000 municipalities in the following way:
