With its new X90, X90 Pro and X90 Pro+ smartphones, Vivo is clearly looking to offer an extraordinary experience in photography. The latter will also offer the most powerful photo configuration ever seen to date, and can obviously always count on its historical partner Zeiss.
The Vivo X90 Pro+ wants to become the new king of photography
With its new Vivo X90 Pro+, the Chinese manufacturer is thinking big. We are entitled for the first time to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip from Qualcomm. The latter promises performance increases of 35% for the CPU part, and 25% for the GPU. However, it is above all the energy efficiency that has been improved, with a reduction of 40% and 45%, respectively.
Like its predecessor, the Vivo X80 Pro that we tested, the new Vivo X90 Pro+ is entitled to a 6.78-inch 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED displaybut this time with a Samsung E6 panelthe LTPO 4.0 technology and a maximum brightness of 1800 nits. The smartphone is powered by a 4700 mAh battery compatible with the 80W wired and 50W wireless fast chargingand we can also note that the device is certified IP68 for water and dust resistance.
However, despite all these impressive additions, the main new features are in the photo section. Indeed, Vivo has equipped its high-end smartphone always relies on a configuration with four cameras, but this time with much larger sensors. The main sensor is nothing but a 50 MP IMX989 measuring 1 inch, the same as found on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It is accompanied by a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle IMX598 sensor, a 50 MP IMX758 portrait sensor and a 64 MP OV64B periscope sensor offering 3.5X optical zoom (up to 100X digital). The selfie part is provided by a 32 MP sensor.
The photo part is mainly accompanied by Carl Zeiss lenses and lens coatings. The sensors therefore receive more light, but also better control of reflections and distortions. The smartphone also promises better processing of shots compared to previous generations thanks to the new image coprocessor V2.
The Vivo X90 and X90 Pro rely on chips from MediaTek
For their part, the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro abandon Qualcomm for a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chip, which has little to envy its rival. The latter also makes smartphones compatible WiFi 7with new UFS 4.0 flash memory as well as LPDDR5X RAM.
The main differences with the most powerful model in the series are mainly at the level of the screen, the battery, as well as the photo. First of all, the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro benefit froman AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display. At the battery level, there is an accumulator of 4810 mAh for the X90, and 4870 mAh for the X90 Pro. Both come with a faster wired fast charging at 120W. However, the classic model is not entitled to wireless charging.
Next, the Pro model only offers a smaller 50 MP IMX866 main sensor, and relies on a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12 MP (2X) telephoto lens. For its part, the Vivo X90 is entitled to the same 50 MP IMX866 sensor, a 12 MP ultra wide-angle sensor and a 12 MP telephoto lens (2X).
Unlike the Vivo X90 Pro+, the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro are not IP68 certified. All smartphones run on Android 13 with Vivo’s in-house overlay, Origin OS 3.
