There is no doubt that the electric car is the future, some electric vehicles that will reign in all our roads, they are less polluting, they make less noise and they are much more advanced with touch panels and much more.
But future electric car will also be more intelligent, capable of detecting the state of a driver at a given moment, to know if he is sleepy, entertained by something or directly not paying attention to the road.
And it is that these electric vehicles are going to know a lot about us, and now the new technology that Volvo is going to bring into play thanks to its driver understanding system, could even know if you have drunk more than necessary, and stop the vehicle in consequence.
And it is that our car could save our lives if we are absent-minded or have drunk more than necessary, and this is thanks to a new Volvo technology for its new LiDAR range and light detection sensors, some mounted outside the car to help you detect obstacles and two others focused on drivers eyes to determine if they are driving with certain problems or need assistance.
The car will first issue a series of warnings to the driver if its sensors detect that the driver is drunk, and then proceed to reduce the speed of the car until it stopsturning on the hazard lights.
“Our research shows that simply by observing where the driver looks and how often and for how long their eyes are closed we can tell a lot about the state of the driver.”, says the Volvo safety expert Emma Tivesten.
“The detection system allows our cars to identify if the driver’s ability is affected, perhaps due to drowsiness, distraction or other causes of inattention, and thus offer additional assistance in the way that best suits the situation.“, Add.
Sensors that will not stop watching us
And it is that the different patterns of the eyes can indicate different states in the car, alerting the driver accordingly.
They give as an example that if the driver is looking at the road very little, perhaps he is sending a text message on his mobile while driving, or if he is concentrating too much, it could indicate that he is lost in thought and not paying attention to driving.
We will see what this new Volvo technology is for its future electric cars that could also be replicated by other manufacturers.
