Huawei Mate 20 Pro, which was introduced at an event held in London on October 16 and which we had the opportunity to follow and examine on-site, shows the latest point reached by the company in technology. The already good (and I say this as a Mate 7 user) Mate family has now reached the top with the Mate 20 Pro.
We used and reviewed the Huawei Mate 20 Pro!
First of all, I would like to say that the phone comes with radical changes: The infinite screen design, which has been preferred by Samsung for many years, is now used in the Mate 20 Pro. The brightness and display of this endless screen is amazing. The 6.39-inch OLED screen delivers really beautiful images. Aside from the fact that I personally do not like the infinite screen design, the screen of the phone is very successful. In the Mate 20 Pro, whose genes have changed with its endless screen design, the SIM card slot has passed from the side to the bottom.
Mate 20 Pro, which is a notched phone, has many sensors on the front, along with the camera. These sensors are used for the three-dimensional face detection feature, which the company calls 3D Face Unlock. This feature works very well and can recognize your face even in dark or poorly lit environments.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro hardware specifications
The phone is equipped with Huawei’s octa-core Kirin 980 processor (2xA76 @2.6GHz + 2xA76 @1.92GHz +4xA55 @1.8GHz). Kirin 980, the brand’s newest processor, appears for the first time with the Mate 20 Pro.
On the other hand, this processor is accompanied by Mali-G76 MP10 GPU, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Mate 20 Pro, a high-end phone in terms of hardware features, received very high scores in the tests, as you can see from the screenshots below. We also got similar results during our usage experience. Delivering stutter-free performance even in high-end games Mate 20 Pro, the hardware gives more than enough of its power.
It is a smooth phone in terms of user experience. Mate 20 ProIt offers smooth use with Android 9.0 Pie operating system (which is the latest operating system currently in use) and EMUI 9.0 interface. Android 9.0 Pie, which comes with some new features, draws attention with its user-friendly interface and some helpful applications. The EMUI 9.0 interface, which successfully supports the features of the operating system, is another detail that increases the pleasure of use.
amazing cameras
The most important feature of the phone is the triple main camera module. There are 3 different cameras here, 40 Megapixel main, 8 Megapixel telephoto and 20 Megapixel Ultra wide angle. The camera modules are arranged in a rectangle and each camera is placed in one corner of the rectangle. An LED lamp is placed in the last exposed corner. This design, which is perceived as 4 cameras at first glance, adds a different atmosphere to the phone.
Leica lenses are used on all cameras (including the front camera). Since Leica is a company with a well-deserved reputation for lenses, it contributes significantly to image quality.
We previously reviewed Huawei P20 ProThere were also 3 cameras. However, their lineup was in the form of a line, and that phone had a black and white camera module instead of a wide angle.
Mate 20 ProThe use of wide-angle instead of black-and-white camera in , has been advantageous in some ways, but it has brought disadvantages in some ways. The advantage is that you can shoot with a very wide angle (the focal length of the lens is 17 mm). Disadvantage because black and white camera P20It provided a serious benefit to .
The results of the camera are very successful. Using an advanced algorithm Mate 20 Pro It gives amazing results in photo shoots. You can see these results in different ways in the article, or you can take a look at the gallery link that we will put in the relevant places. On the other hand, having a resolution of 40 Megapixels (just like the P20) means that even when you photograph a large area and then frame it from this area, you will still have a high-resolution photo. In other words, our phone with a mobile phone camera that offers high resolution in terms of detail.
Mate 20 Pro, which can take photos from a very short distance like 2.5 cm, acts like a camera with a macro lens in this sense. In addition, 3X optical, 5X digital zoom provides serious benefits. But there is a small detail about zooming with this wide angle: You can only use these modes at 10 Megapixel resolution. In other words, when you shoot 40 Megapixels, you cannot enter wide angle or zoom.
The front camera of the phone also gives good results. The camera, which offers 24 Megapixels as a resolution, is also very successful.
On the video side, the main cameras offer 4K 30 fps, and the front camera offers Full HD 30 fps. Although Huawei is ambitious about photography, I think it should improve the video subject a little more. The results aren’t bad, but the video quality of a flagship should be slightly better.
40 Megapixel f/1.8 + 8 Megapixel f/2.4 OIS telephoto (80mm) + 20 Megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide angle (17mm); , Leica lens, 5X optical zoom
4K 30fps video recording, [email protected] slow motion (main camera)
24 Megapixel front camera, f/2.0 Leica lens, Portrait Mode.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro video review
Huawei Mate 20 ProYou can watch our video about the features below:
Fingerprint reading from the screen
Another important feature of the phone is the fingerprint reading technology on the screen. On the Mate 20 Pro, Huawei’s first phone using this technology, on-screen fingerprint reading does not work badly. However, this system, which is a bit slow compared to a physical fingerprint reader, takes about half a second to work. In addition, the technology works a little hard when the screen is wet or if there is a protection film on the screen.
However, despite all its disadvantages, I can say that this technology is very ‘cool’. Huawei Although not the first brand to use this technology Mate 20 ProI think that this technology makes an important contribution to the elegance of .
NanoMemory memory card
With the Huawei Mate 20 family, for some reason, no manufacturer has thought of it so far. NanoMemory also implemented the memory card. This type of memory card, which is currently only used in Mate 20 models, is basically a SIM card-sized memory card. Thanks to these cards, which are smaller than standard microSD cards, the SIM card slots are getting smaller.
It’s a smart move, but the fact that it’s only used on these models for now is a bit of a handicap. I hope it will be an accepted type of memory card in the industry in the coming period.
40W fast charge
Along with the USB Type-C connection cable and adapter (which is a bit big) that comes with the phone and comes out of the box, it also comes with 40 Watt charging support. In this way, the phone can reach from zero to one hundred percent filling in 54 minutes. In our tests with this adapter, we got the following results. We also prepared a video on the subject. You can also watch it:
15 Watt Wireless Charging and Reverse Wireless Charging
The phone still supports high-speed wireless charging. Another interesting feature is Reverse Wireless Charging. In other words, the phone also acts as a wireless charger, and if there is a phone compatible with this technology, it can also charge it. Of course, it goes without saying that this process consumes the Mate 20’s battery. It’s an interesting feature that hasn’t been seen on phones until now. It’s a technology that will come in handy in an emergency.
USB Type-C port
The phone has a USB Type-C port (which I personally don’t like). The reason I don’t like it is that this port is also used for headphones. Although it comes with a converter out of the box, I prefer a 3.5mm headphone jack in addition to USB Type-C. However, this is a somewhat personal opinion. Otherwise, there is no problem with usage.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Turkey price
The phone entered the Turkish market with a price tag of 8,499 TL. When we look at similar models, the price is a little high (for example, Samsung Galaxy Note 9). The phone, which has an affordable price compared to iPhone models, is a little expensive compared to other Androids. However, since this is the launch price, we can expect the price to drop a little in the coming days.
As a result Huawei Mate 20 Pro It has become a model that sets industry standards. Its camera and some additional features it offers take the phone to a special place. The phone, which I especially like the camera, received positive points from us.
