If you are a Movistar fiber customer, it is very likely that you have installed one of the operator’s two routers with integrated ONT: the HGU or Smart WiFi model, or the xHGU or Smart WiFi 6 model. There are some differences between the two, but both they have four indicators or LED lights with its own color code.
Although all of them are accompanied by their corresponding drawing or symbol, we are going to explain to you What meaning does each one have? Of them, how can you know if there is a fault or any problem in the operation of the router, and how can you try to solve it.
Four lights, three colors, three states
The Movistar router has four LED lights that can warn you of an operating problem using a color code and the on, off and flashing. Each of these indicators has a drawing or symbol that tells us what it represents: landline telephony, WiFi access, WiFi Plus access and internet.
These four lights are identical on the Smart WiFi router and the Smart WiFi 6 router, although on the latter they are somewhat smaller and less bright. If everything works correctly, the four lights on the Movistar router are on Permanently In color bluewhich means that both telephone and internet are available.
The first LED light corresponds to the landline telephone service:
- If the blue LED light is on, it means it is working properly.
- If it flashes, it is because it is accessing the network when, for example, you disconnect or restart the router.
- When a voice call is being made, incoming or outgoing, it will turn green.
- If you see a red light or it is off, you will not be able to make calls because the router cannot access the network to offer telephone service.
The next two LED lights (the central ones) correspond to wireless connections: the second is the 2.4 GHz WiFi connection, and the third is the 5 GHz WiFi Plus connection:
- If both lights stay blue, the connection is working properly.
- Those blue LED lights will flash when you activate the WPS function by pressing the corresponding button (the flashing usually lasts 120 seconds).
- If they are off, it means that you do not have access to the router’s WiFi connectivity. Press the WPS buttons on the back for more than five seconds to activate WiFi access again.
The fourth and last LED light is the one that indicates if you have access to the internet and is represented with a mouse icon:
- If the light is blue and solid, it means that you have access to the Internet correctly.
- When it flashes, it means you are accessing the Movistar network. It usually happens when you turn the router off and on, and it doesn’t last long.
- If you see the light off, it indicates that you do not have an Internet connection.
- If the permanent red light appears (something rare), it means that there is a problem related to the Movistar router and that may affect the hardware or its firmware. Turn it off for a few seconds and turn it back on. If the red light continues, contact Movistar.
- If the red light flashes, it means that the power level of the fiber optic is not adequate. In this case, the only solution is to contact Movistar.
