The next big version of Google’s OS is Android 15, which will arrive in autumn after going through several beta versions – currently beta 1.2 – and being polished to the maximum. This year, it seems that more customization options will be added: widgets on the lock screen, a renewed launcher with improvements, dark mode in all apps, among some others.
If you have followed the news of Android 15you will know that the widgets that come to the lock screen will be available only on tablets, but this new feature that has been recently found will reach all devices.
“At a glance” more lives up to its name
He “At a Glance” widget, if we can call it a widget, is typical of the Google Pixel and is present at the top of the home screen and the lock screen. It’s actually quite useful, displaying contextualized information like alarms, reminders, timers, calendar events, and much more. It even reminds us that we have the flashlight on.
That’s where the novelty comes from. has been found in Android 15 Beta 1.2, which unlike the widgets seen for the lock screen will be available on mobile phones. At least on Google, of course.
As we read in Android Authority, this widget space on the lock screen is different from the one seen previously. In this case, the widgets will not appear directly but we must make a gesture to see themfrom the right edge.
That is, we will have something similar to what we see on iOS, which managed to adopt widgets to bring them to the lock screen on mobile phones. Of course, adapting an already known feature: “At a Glance”, or “At a glance” in Spanish. This element, as we have mentioned previously, is in Google phones, the Google Pixel.
This aspect of the system does not support traditional widgets, at least for the moment, and enabling them in this space will require work to make them fit in the corresponding area. Currently, the “At a Glance” section appears under the date on the lock screen, however, Google is moving it to the bottomsupposedly to accommodate widgets.
The source of inspiration would have been none other than the “Live activities” of iOS, which on the other hand, is not bad considering the good implementation that Apple did. At the moment this feature is disabled on Android, although it is possible to enable it in the latest beta of Android 15.
It is appreciated that is in development, since it overlaps with other elements such as Android 14 shortcuts. In addition, the lock screen ends up very cluttered when combined with notifications. Therefore, Google has a lot of work left to do, calling into question whether it can reach the final public version of Android 15.
