We have been using WhatsApp daily for years. However, some of its adjustments remain largely unknown to many. Settings that, on the other hand, They are vitally important to keep the iPhone and your data safe. Hence we advise at least reviewing them.
We will tell you which settings we recommend reviewing within the WhatsApp application, given that many of them will also help you save storage space on your iPhone. And, if you hadn’t realized, WhatsApp is one of the apps that consumes the most space on mobile phones.
The classics that should be remembered: photo, status, latest news and groups
You probably already know it well, but it never hurts to remember these options aimed at hide information from strangers or certain contacts that, for whatever reason, you don’t want them to access it. It all starts with opening WhatsApp on the iPhone, going to the tab Setting and enter Privacy. There you will find these options:
- Last Time and Online Time: It is separated into two blocks with the possibility of showing or hiding, on the one hand, the last time you connected with date and time, and on the other hand, whether or not you are online when you enter the app.
- Profile picture: If you decide, you can show your photo only to certain contacts.
- Info: what was the old status and which is something like a description of your profile, which can be seen by everyone or not.
- Groups: You have the option of allowing anyone, only your contacts, or only certain contacts to add you to groups.
- State: If you don’t want them to see your WhatsApp stories, you can choose who you want to see it here.
It should be said that in all cases it is possible show it to everyone, only to your contacts, to your contacts with exceptions or let no one see it directly. This way you can customize these options much more.
Check which devices are logged in
Although these sessions tend to expire, It is possible that someone has your WhatsApp open on their computer and may be watching your conversations. A good way to avoid this is to see precisely where you are logged in. This is seen in Setting > Linked devicesand if you see that there is a suspicious session started, you can select it and delete it.
Avoid calls from unknown numbers
There are many WhatsApp scams that we encounter and many times they come through calls from numbers that we do not have saved. If you want to avoid this spam, there is an option that prevents it.
You just have to go to the panel Settingwalk into Privacyafter in Calls and finally Activate the option Silence calls from unknown numbers. With this, numbers that you do not have saved will continue to call you, but it will not ring and you will see it directly in the calls tab, where you can block it if you wish.
Protect chats with your face or fingerprint
There are some ways to protect iPhone apps with a password, but in WhatsApp it is not necessary, since brings an option to protect the app with Face ID or Touch ID. It can be done by entering Settingafter in Privacy, Then in App lock and there activate Require Face ID/Touch ID. You can also choose when you want it to be blocked (immediately, when one minute passes since you used the app, a quarter of an hour or an hour).
Prevent automatic file downloads
There is a fundamental element for save storage and even mobile data. It is simply about preventing the photos, videos, audios and other files sent to you from being downloaded automatically. In all of them you can select that download automatically only over Wi-Fi, with Wi-Fi and mobile data, or that they never download on their own. This last option is recommended.
Use the storage manager
As we said in the introduction, there are ways to prevent WhatsApp from taking up a lot of space on the iPhone and everything involves, first, prevent photos and videos from being automatically saved to the gallery. You must go to Setting > Chats and uncheck the box Save to Photos for it.
The next step is thoroughly review the storage manager which is located in Setting > Storage and data > Storage management. There you can find all the files received and even sort them by weight, select them and delete them if you don’t need them in order to free up space in the internal memory.
