WhatsApp groups are one of those love-hate functionalities that in the end we have all ended up experiencing, groups in which people with similar interests meet and that the application also opted for the so-called communities that basically allowed groups to be created within groups .
And it is that the communities are the best place to find all the groups related to the same topic, but unfortunately it is also a place for our phone number to be exposed to a larger group of people.
But now, as pointed out by Wabetainfo, the new WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.22.17.23 includes a new privacy setting within the information section of a group.
Now as you can see on the screenshot, the new privacy settings shows the ability or not to share the phone number with a certain subgroup of a communityso our phone number could remain hidden from all members when we join a community, unless the administrator has previously configured it otherwise.
In this way, when we enter a community the phone number will be completely hidden from other usersunless the administrator of this community has changed this option, which is marked by default.
In any case, it is a feature that is still in preparation and that is limited to communities, so we will have to see how it prospers and how it will finally be established, to safeguard the privacy of our telephone number.
