Today it would be unthinkable for many people not to have an Internet connection at home. A large number of users go to a lot of trouble to try to have the best possible connection quality, always looking for the best bandwidth and the best upload and download speeds. This is something that we have resolved, since with fiber optics we have a more than good connection for practically any task. But there are countries with the fastest internet in the world, today we are going to discover which ones occupy the top 10 positions.
overall average speed
Over time, the speed of Internet connections has increased considerably. There are many pages that give us very approximate data on these measures, where accounts of the state and performance of digital ecosystems around the world are shown. In 2023, reports have shown that the average download speed has increased again. Both on mobile devices and traditional fixed connections.
Worldwide, the download speed on mobile internet reaches an average of 33.97 Mbps. This is a 17% growth compared to the same period in 2022. On the other hand, the upload speed has also increased, despite the fact that it is at much lower values. This is maintained this year at an average of 9.34 Mbps, which indicates a growth of 9.5%. But we have another important measure, and it is latency. This is of vital importance in many systems, and it is best to keep it as low as possible. Globally, it has decreased by 3.4%, standing at an average of 20 milliseconds. But it is expected that it will continue to drop, since fiber optics is becoming more widespread.
If we look at the fixed connection internet, the world average stands at 74.54 Mbps, assuming an increase of 28.5% compared to 2022. This is substantially higher than that provided by mobile networks. In the same way, the upload speed has been positioned at no more and no less than 31.75 Mbps. 30.8% more than last year, and with a latency of about 10 milliseconds. Which has not shown growth.
Top 10 countries with the best mobile connection
In this case, again we are going to have to separate the mobile and fixed connections. Since they represent a very big change in terms of the capabilities they provide. But if we start with the mobile network, we find that the United Arab Emirates are the leaders with a 139 Mbps connection. They have increased their average from 136 Mbps in 2022. If we continue to drop on this podium, we are in second place with Norway with 131 Mbps. And closing the top 3 of the fastest mobile networks, we find South Korea in third place, with 118 Mbps.
The rest of the Top 10 positions are made up of:
- Denmark
- China
- Netherlands
- Saudi Arabia
- Australia
- Sweden
- Canada
To find Spain, we will have to go down to number 33. And this is despite the fact that we have raised the average compared to last year. The 36 Mbps on average were not enough to maintain the 27th position on the list. On the other hand, if we look at the other end of the list, we find countries like Ghana, Colombia, Indonesia, India or Nigeria. Where the average speeds do not exceed 20 Mbps.
Top 10 countries with the best fixed connection
The fixed connection is something totally different. Here the speeds are much higher, and the table changes completely. And it is that, in this modality, Spain manages to get into the Top 10 countries with greater speed. With an estimated average of about 166 Mbps. Last year this was 131 Mbps, but even with this increase we were unable to maintain the position, and we dropped three.
The country that takes the victory in this case is Chile. In this Latin American country, they reached an average of 216 Mbps. This allowed them to unseat Singapore from first place, which stayed at 214.23 Mbps, which made it fall to third position. Being China with 214, 58, who ranks second. At the other extreme, we have Kenya, Nigeria and Morocco, with speeds of less than 20 Mbps.
The other positions on the list of countries with the fastest internet are:
- thailand
- Hong Kong
- USA
- Denmark
- United Arab Emirates
- Romania
- Spain
Taking into account that technologies do not stop evolving, and that access to faster networks is becoming more widespread, this list can change completely. These have been the countries with the fastest internet in the year 2023. But it can change radically in the year 2024.
