After the announcement that Charles Martinet, who was the voice of Mario Bros.in its different iterations (including a small participation in the plumber’s last film) was officially retired, it has finally been revealed who will be the new voice actor for the beloved Nintendo character.
Who is the one who voices Mario Bros?
Kevin Afghani is the one who now voices the Mario Bros and his brother, Luigi. His role as the two iconic voices will begin with the upcoming release of “Super Mario Wonder,” the latest installment in the venerable 2D platformer series.
This exciting announcement comes just a week before the launch of said game for the Nintendo Switch. The voice actor himself confirmed the news through the platform (formerly known as Twitter), and Nintendo responded immediately, validating the information.
This revelation comes months after it was announced that Mario’s previous voice actor, Charles Martinet, would be retiring from the role and taking on “ambassador” status. He brought this iconic video game character to life for decades, and his connection to Nintendo dates back to 1991. During his time as the official voice of the plumber, he participated in trade shows and eventually contributed to educational titles such as “Mario Teaches Typing.”
However, for most gamers, Mario’s iconic voice was first present in the Nintendo 64 game, “Super Mario 64.” This title represented the plumber’s first 3D adventure, and the addition of voice acting provided a more immersive and modern gaming experience compared to the sprite-based platformers of previous installments.
From then until 2023, Charles Martinet provided the voice of not only Mario and Luigi, but also their villainous counterparts, Wario and Waluigi. The latter leaves the question of “who was the voice of these two villains?”
Who will be the voice of Wario and Waluigi?
Although it has been confirmed that Kevin Afghani will replace Charles Martinet as the voice of Mario and Luigi, although it has not yet been confirmed whether he will take on the roles of Wario and Waluigi in future games in the Nintendo franchise. It is not ruled out that he also does this acting job, although we will have to wait for a next game or official announcement.
Having said that, Kevin Afghani, compared to Charles Martinet, is a much newer talent in the world of voice acting. He began his career in 2018 with the video game “Dragon Ball R&R”, where he voiced Raditz, Goku’s brother. Additionally, he played the character Arnold in the English version of the extremely popular game “Genshin Impact.”
