Possibly we are facing one of the most annoying infections that exist, since we are not talking, initially, about anything serious, but it greatly harms our daily routine. A stye is basically a kind of painful pimple that appears on the edge of the eyelid.
These are formed when a small oil-producing gland in the eyelash follicle or eyelid skin becomes blocked and infected. The big basic problem is that even if you take good care of your eyes, you can have them.
Most styes are caused by staphylococci, a type of bacteria that live on the skin and are normally harmless, so we shouldn’t worry too much. However, it is true that things can get complicated.
And it is that, the styes usually get better without treatment. However, sometimes a problem that requires a doctor’s evaluation occurs when it has been going on for several days and does not go away, the discharge contains a lot of blood, or there is a lot of swelling.
Things you can do to prevent a stye
Some ways to reduce the risk of getting a stye are based on avoid touching or rubbing your eyes, keep contact lenses clean and disinfected and of course wash your hands if you are going to touch your face.
Try to resist and consider, if you have an allergy and can’t help but touch your face, taking medication.
And it is that, hands are often carriers of dirt and germs that can infect or clog the pores or follicles near the eye and cause a stye. Keep them clean with simple soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
If you wear makeup, you should always wash your face thoroughly and remove all traces before going to sleep. Try, especially not to wear glasses if you already have a stye.
