According to data from StatCountera company that measures web traffic and usage trends, Windows 10 is the most widely used desktop operating system in the world, with a 73.48% market share as of March 2023. This data represents a slight increase compared to the previous month, when it had 73.31%, but it is still much higher than the rest of the competitors.
Windows 11 continues to rise, albeit slowly
The second most used desktop operating system is Windows 11the latest version released by Microsoft in October 2022. Despite the hardware requirements, Windows 11 has already achieved 20.95% market share in March 2023, which represents an increase of 1% compared to the previous month. This indicates that some users are still upgrading their computers or buying new ones with Windows 11 pre-installed.
Third place is occupied by windows 7an operating system that stopped receiving official support from Microsoft in January 2020. Despite this, there are still 3.73% of users who use it on their computers, which poses a risk to their security and performance .
If we compare Windows against other desktop operating systems, it continues to dominate with 69.4%. It is followed by macOS with 17.21%, Linux with 2.85% and Chrome OS with 3.23%.
