Changes and improvements in build 25252
Taskbar and system tray
- They have added a VPN status that can be seen in the system tray when connected to a recognized VPN profile. The VPN icon, a small shield, will be overlaid in the system accent color over the active network connection.
Search in the taskbar
- In this release, they continue to test different treatments for the look of the search on the taskbar. They’re happy to learn from our feedback on this, so please let them know what you think via the Feedback Hub if you see the different treatments on their PC. Users with access to this experience will have the ability to change the treatment of search on the taskbar in settings under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Elements.
Fixes and improvements in build 25252
Taskbar and system tray
- Fixed a crash of explorer.exe when using Alt+F4 with the option to show hidden icons in the open system tray.
- Fixed various explorer.exe crashes that affected system tray performance.
- Updated the battery icon tooltip to let you know if your device is charging slowly.
- Made a small improvement for tablet-optimized taskbar users to make it easier to expand the taskbar without invoking the Start menu.
- Fixed an issue that could cause taskbar jump lists and preview thumbnails to not appear in the correct position for Insiders with 2-in-1 PCs.
Start Menu
- Fixed an issue that caused Start menu folders to fail to open on the first try.
Others
- Fixed an issue that caused some Insiders to see a bugcheck with the SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION error after upgrading to the previous version.
- Fixed an issue that caused some apps (including the media player) to crash when playing media in the background on recent flights.
- Fixed an issue that could cause the PC to go to sleep even though it was set not to.
- Fixed an issue where network-to-local copying (for example, when copying a file from a network share) was slower than expected by some users.
Known Bugs in Build 25252
General
- [NUEVO] Under certain circumstances, Widgets may appear missing for a small subset of Windows Insiders causing explorer.exe to hang in a loop after upgrading to this build. If it is missing, you can install it here. We recommend that you do this before upgrading. If you upgrade and are affected, follow these steps to revert.
- [NUEVO] There is an issue in Build 25247+ that causes some Insiders to not be able to see certain secondary drives – this may affect other PCI devices as well. The device shows up as an error in Device Manager. We are working on a fix, once you update to a build with the fix it should be functional again.
- Reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders after updating to the latest builds are being investigated.
- They investigate reports of crashes with a few different apps and games in the latest builds.
- They study reports that various UI elements of apps seem to sometimes disappear and reappear in the latest versions.
Taskbar and system tray
- The taskbar is sometimes cut in half when using the tablet-optimized taskbar.
- [NOVEDAD] We are working on fixing an issue that causes the Bluetooth section of Quick Settings to hang from the previous flight. If you are affected, please use Settings > Bluetooth and Devices for now instead.
Search in the taskbar
- For certain files that end in .cmd, .exe, or .bat, you may need to press the backspace key after typing before you see the results.
The following known issues only apply to Windows Insiders who have received one of the different treatments for the appearance of the search on the taskbar as mentioned earlier in this blog post:
- [NOVEDAD] When you change your primary monitor, for example by connecting an external display, you’ll see a search box that appears to be floating on your desktop. You can fix this problem by going to Personalization > Taskbar > Search and turning on the setting.
- When using multiple monitors, the search box is not visible on the non-active monitor when the search dropdown is opened. This only happens when the “Show my taskbar on all screens” option is enabled.
- When clicking on the search box on the taskbar, the search box flashes momentarily before the search dropdown menu appears.
- In right-to-left display languages, such as Arabic, there are layout issues with the search box text on the taskbar.
- Some Japanese IME candidate elements are clipped inside the taskbar search box.
Task Manager
- Filtering by publisher name does not match correctly on the Processes page.
- Some services may not appear on the Services page after filtering is applied.
- If a new process is started while a filter is being set, that process may appear for a fraction of a second in the filtered list.
- Clear key and tooltip not working in filter input box.
- Some dialogs may not appear in the correct theme when applied from the Task Manager settings page.
- The data content area of the Processes page may flash once when theme changes are applied in the Settings page of Task Manager.
- There is an issue they are investigating where the Task Manager does not display light and dark content correctly, making the text unreadable. This occurs when you have the mode in Settings > Personalization > Colors set to Custom – as a workaround for now, please change it to Light or Dark.
Widgets
- In right-to-left languages like Arabic, the content animates out of view before the Widget panel resizes.
