How to fix the bug that occurs after Windows 11 update KB5036980
If you are faced with the problem of changing your profile photo, follow these steps:
- Open any folder and paste this path into the address bar: C:\Users\[votre nom d’utilisateur]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Account avatars.
- Place the photo you are looking to use for your profile in the folder that just opened. Make sure it is in the format .png.
- Close the folder and restart your computer.
You should see the photo you chose as a profile illustration. Note that Microsoft has acknowledged the existence of this bug and is working to fix it. It should be deployed with the Patch Tuesday for May 2024. This is a minor problem, but other people report much more serious concerns. On Reddit, Internet user iBattlemike explains that the update caused a permanent black screen at home, forcing him to reinstall Windows 11 and then delete it manually. This seems to be an isolated case though.
