The Google Camera is one of the reasons why the Pixels stand out in the photographic field. The processing that the Mountain View company has developed works magic, but thanks to some developers it is not necessary to buy a Google mobile, but it is already possible to use it in others with this compact GCam.
This application is based on a light version, intended for modest mobiles. However, this does not prevent you show your full potential. We show you how to download and install it, as well as the functions that will improve the photographic quality of your smartphone.
A Google Camera that does magic through software
As usual with this type of modification, we can find it on the website that compiles the best GCam for Android. This is Celso Azevedo’s website, where we find different variants of the Google Camera, adapted by different developers who give it their particular vision and make it compatible with other devices.
The compact GCam we are talking about is the port Made by Shamim, a well-known developer in this world. Specifically, the latest update makes it stable this modificationwhich originates from version 3.8.47 of Google Camera for Android Go.
Downloading and installing it on your device is very easy, you just have to download the file APK from here and install it like any other application outside the Play Store, previously activating unknown sources.
Thanks to the changelog that the developer shares, we anticipate some of its functions like a renewed night mode, support for HDR +, a 100x zoom and filters that will beautify our photos.

This is what the interface looks like. On the right the configuration menu.
The interface is clear and clean: it shows the trigger at the bottom and has shortcuts to some functions such as the latest captures and a button to use the front camera. Changing the mode will be as easy as clicking on the desired option that we see in the lower area of the screen.
The Google Lens compatibility is still standing, allowing us to scan documents, translate them and other extra features. We have tested it and it returns a fairly correct operation, without bugs or failures that prevent immortalizing memories.
From the settings, located in the gear wheel icon, we can customize certain functions such as HDR or night mode. In the same place we can deactivate the flash, set a timer or activate the useful function of maintaining the same orientation when we use the camera for selfies.
Despite being a light version, the processing does its magic.
Against it, we can say that we miss an option for change the resolution of the photos it takes, but it’s understandable in this ‘trimmed’ version that prioritizes performance over customization.
This GCam does not prevent you from continuing to use your phone’s default camera, so you can always install it and try it firsthand. If it convinces you, you can use it in a way complementary to the default app, or replace it in case you like the experience. Now, we can enjoy photographic quality ‘Made by Google’, without having to purchase a Pixel.
