Like any mortal, there are many times that I have been watching a series or movie and for whatever reason I have not completely understood the dialogue that has just occurred. Either because at that moment I am listening to a notification from the iPhone, because I am watching it in the original version and I don’t understand a word or simply the volume is low. Fortunately, Apple TV has excellent functionality for it.
It is simply about go back ten seconds the scene to be able to hear that dialogue again. And yes, this is a function extremely well known for being able to be done with the Apple TV remote and, in addition, it is available on any other player and remote. However, in tvOS it can be run even more easily and quickly.
What did you say?
This is the question that we often ask ourselves when we have not understood that dialogue and it is also the key to being able to rewind on Apple TV. Everything goes through Siri, the reviled Apple assistant who I personally had never seen much sense in on an Apple TV, but in cases like these it makes all the sense in the world.
You simply have to invoke Siri and say that “What did he say?”. Siri will not ask any more questions. It will simply rewind ten seconds automatically so that we can attend to that dialogue. We can also ask you to rewind or even forward a few specific seconds, although in the end it is much more natural to ask that question.
It must be said that we must do this by clicking on the Siri button on the remote, but also with the voice command ‘Hey, Siri’. This is even more convenient because it does not even imply that we make the effort to pick up the remote from the table, although I must say that it only works when we wear AirPods or other headphones compatible with that functionality.
Of course, works for any platform and not only on Apple TV+. You can try it on Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube… The mechanism is always the same and the assistant will always understand that it must play the content again from ten seconds before. If you need more, you should say “advance X seconds” to be more exact.
