There are many companies within the technology sector that have practices that tend to greatly affect users, the main ones that we can find in the computer systems market, such as Microsoft, have a long list of times when they have violated the privacy or consent of their users and this time it seems that they are going to do it again due to automatic Windows updates.

Many people who use operating systems like Windows don’t usually have the latest available update. While this can be risky because certain security updates are implemented to fix issues, they can also come with quite a few bugs that affect the system’s operation. For this reason, many users decide to postpone updates as long as possible until they become truly stable, but those using Windows 11 this time won’t have the ability to choose, even if they don’t want to install the latest version.

The new Windows update will download even if you don’t want it to.

Windows is an operating system used by a large number of people who own a computer. The distribution of operating systems currently on the market shows that the vast majority of users prefer Microsoft’s system due to the compatibility it offers for both gaming and work. But that doesn’t mean everyone who uses it has the latest updates. In fact, many people still use Windows 10 instead of Windows 11, approximately 43% of total users.

We’ve now learned through a Microsoft post that a large portion of Windows 11 users will receive the Windows 11 24H2 update automatically, even if they don’t choose to install it. In this case, the company indicated in the bulletin published Friday that “devices running Windows 11 Home and Pro editions, versions 23H2, 22H2, and 21H2 that are not managed by IT departments will receive the update to version 24H2 automatically.”

The company behind Windows has indicated that they are in the final phase of gradual deployment of this update and normally the user would be able to choose when to download it by searching for it in Windows Update, but users who fall within the features we mentioned above will only be able to choose when to apply the update or postpone it. This obviously means that it will be downloaded automatically, so those who have little storage space will have to check their storage drive space.

The fact that the company itself forces users to download an update when they don’t know if they’re going to install it or not in the end is a waste of storage space that isn’t very noticeable on computers with large capacities, but on cheaper systems that use much more limited hard drives or SSDs then it is a problem, since in the end Windows updates don’t exactly take up a small amount of space.
