New HomePod mini 2 redesigned and more versatile
Renowned analyst Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has announced that the next HomePod mini will include a new chip developed by Apple, which will combine Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in a single component, just like other devices, such as the Apple TV. This chip, in addition to optimize energy consumptionwould be compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, the latest technology that offers faster and more stable connections when operating in the 6 GHz band.
Although it is not yet confirmed whether support for Wi-Fi 6E will be available on the device, if so, the new HomePod mini would leave behind the outdated Wi-Fi 4 of the current model, offering a much more advanced connectivity experience.
Another of the great novelties would be the incorporation of a more powerful processor. The current model is powered by the S5 chip, originally launched with the Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019. However, the HomePod mini 2 could adopt a next-generation chip, which would not only improve the overall performance of the device but also optimize the audio quality, making it clearer and more immersive.
In addition, it is expected to include a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which would allow for a smoother Handoff experience with lower latency. This means users will be able to transfer music or calls from their iPhones to the HomePod mini virtually instantly.
Although no concrete details about aesthetic changes have been leaked, it is likely that Apple will introduce new color options to make the device even more attractive. Currently, the HomePod mini is available in five colors: white, black, yellow, orange and blue. Expanding this range could appeal to a broader audience and allow the speaker to blend better into different décor styles.

In parallel to the HomePod mini 2, Apple would also be preparing a completely new device for the smart home: a hub with 6 inch screen which could be mounted on the wall or placed on a speaker stand. However, the HomePod mini 2 would not benefit from the artificial intelligence improvements expected for this new hub, such as the integration of Apple Intelligence, the successor to Siri. Despite this, it is still a solid option for those looking for a compact and functional smart speaker.
Although there is no exact date confirmed, it is believed that the HomePod mini 2 could be announced in the first half of 2025following Apple’s usual release cycles.
