The device, identified as iPad 16.2, integrates the A17 Pro chip, the same processor that Apple introduced last year with the iPhone 15 Pro, although with an important difference: it has a five-core GPU, one core less than said iPhone. This suggests that the iPad Mini 7 chip could be a limited version of the A17 Pro.
Performance of the new iPad mini 7
Performance test results show that the iPad Mini 7 offers a considerable improvement over its predecessor, the iPad Mini 6, but it remains behind the iPhone 15 Pro. In single-core tests, the iPad Mini 7 achieved scores between 2,710 and 2,840, while in multi-core performance it achieved between 6,274 and 6,982. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro scored figures of about 2,888 in single-core performance and 7,169 in multi-core tests. Although the difference is small, it indicates that the GPU reduction in the iPad Mini 7 has an impact on its overall performance.
Despite this, improvements are evident when compared to the iPad Mini 6, which scored just 2,121 in single-core performance and 5,367 in multi-core tests. This shows that the iPad Mini 7 not only offers a higher speedbut it’s also much more capable for intensive tasks, making it a solid option for those looking for a compact tablet with performance worthy of a Pro device.
The iPhone 15 Pro is more powerful
One of the most important details confirmed in the benchmarks is the inclusion of 8 GB of RAM on the iPad Mini 7. This represents a notable jump compared to the 4 GB offered by the iPad Mini 6, which will allow better handling of more demanding applications and a much more fluid multitasking experience. Although it was expected that the device would have this amount of memory, given that Apple Intelligence technology required it, it was not until now that this improvement was confirmed.
This increase in memory, combined with the powerful A17 Pro chip, provides a substantial improvement in graphics and processing performance, making it suitable for users looking for a tablet for professional tasks or more advanced games. The benchmarks of GPUs also confirm this improvement, as the iPad Mini 7 achieved a score of 25,895 in the Metal tests, compared to 19,486 for the iPad Mini 6. Although it is still below the iPhone 15 Pro, which reached 27,144, it is still being a notable improvement over the previous generation.
