Clara Chappaz, newly appointed Secretary of State for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Affairs, has revealed her roadmap for the years to come. Objective: “to make France a great power in AI at the service of the French and society”.
France has “ the assets » in AI
And for this, Clara Chappaz can draw on her very robust experience within the French Tech Mission, during which she supported French startups in their development. According to her, AI is emerging today as “ an issue of economic sovereignty, attractiveness, competitiveness but also an existential issue to support our vision of the world “.
“ We have the assets to be able to make France a great power in artificial intelligence “, she believes, citing ultra-promising young companies in the sector such as Mistral AI or H Company. Concerned about providing them with the necessary infrastructure for them to continue their growth, Clara Chappaz is committed to “ strengthen the national strategy for AI with 2.5 billion euros committed since 2018 “.
The Secretary of State has the ambition to open a third path of AI, thus setting itself apart from the United States and China, based on ecology, ethics and transparency. Models that she intends to wear during the world summit on artificial intelligence which will be held in Paris on February 10 and 11, 2025.
This is a major challenge, as AI is an extremely energy-intensive technology due to the colossal computing power it requires. “ I think it’s going to become very important how to power these (artificial intelligence) models with green energy, how to make sure that we continue to encourage the use of this technology without damaging the planet », explained Clara Chappaz at the AI Pulse show in early November.
Making French digital more inclusive
Securing the French digital space is also one of the main axes of its plan. This will involve the establishment of a sovereign cloud, in order to best protect sensitive data. “ Regulation is not an end in itself but a tool at the service of our freedoms, to protect our citizens from digital excesses without slowing down innovation. “, she explains.
Another major focus of Clara Chappaz’s program is digital inclusiveness. “ 2 out of 10 French people have difficulty with digital technology »she indicates in a publication on LinkedIn. “ They will be able to rely on AI, which makes digital technology accessible with voice control, computer code assistance tools or image creation “, she continues, adding that “ hundreds of thousands » of French people should benefit from these initiatives.
