Are you tired of using X, the old Twitter? Among the most interesting alternatives to Elon Musk’s social network is Bluesky. And moreover, since the election of Donald Trump, supported by Musk, Bluesky traffic has seen a sharp increase. According to statistics relayed by our colleagues at The Verge, the number of Bluesky users recently exceeded the 15 million mark.
It feels a bit like watching the Berlin Wall collapsing – BlueSky now on 15 million users & counting.

As a reminder, Bluesky has many similarities with X. But it is based on a decentralized protocol called AT Protocol. And if this social network is still far from exceeding the number of users of X, it is still growing.
Quoted by The Verge, Rose Wang, the COO of Bluesky, also indicated that the majority of new users of the platform come from the United States. The outlet also reports that Bluesky recently climbed to the top spot in the US App Store rankings.
Good to see that BlueSky is number one in the App Store charts.
X is way down at number 90.

Threads is also a hit and is getting closer to monetization
If you feel a little alone on Bluesky, you can also opt for Threads. As a reminder, this is an alternative to X launched by the Meta group and which is linked to the social network Instagram. Launched in July 2023, the platform had 150 million monthly active users in April, and 200 million in August. This November, when presenting its quarterly results, Meta indicated that Threads now has nearly 275 million monthly active users. In other words, the social network welcomed 75 million new users in a few months. “It records more than a million registrations per day. Engagement also increases. So we are on track for this application to become our next major social application,” said Mark Zuckerberg.
And if today, Meta does not yet monetize Threads, rumors suggest that the app could start generating revenue, thanks to advertising, in 2025. According to an article from The Information, advertisements could arrive on Threads at the beginning of the year. For its part, the group has neither confirmed nor denied this information. “As our priority is to create value for the consumer, there are no advertisements or monetization functions on Threads,” a company representative only said, quoted by Social Media Today.
In any case, Meta does not currently expect to generate large revenues from this platform. “We do not expect Threads to be a significant driver of 2025 revenue at this time. We are pleased with the growth trajectory and, once again, we are focused on introducing features that the community finds useful and building growth and engagement,” Director Susan Li said recently. financial company of Meta, during a teleconference.
