Little by little, Google is deploying generative artificial intelligence in its ecosystem. And while the search engine already has a feature called AI Overview, which generates content from Gemini to answer questions asked by the user, the firm is preparing another feature called AI Mode. In any case, this is what our colleagues from 9to5Google indicate who, by analyzing the firm’s code, would have discovered new clues.
In essence, this is a feature comparable to Gemini Live that would allow you to chat with the search engine when you want additional information, after getting results. 9to5Google reports that Google would develop a new microphone icon for this feature, as well as buttons that would send images. And that’s not all, since Google also intends to create a new tab on the Google application which will be dedicated to this new mode.
But for now, caution is required. In fact, this new feature has not yet been confirmed by Google. However, such a novelty would allow Google’s search engine to remain competitive, at a time when it must face new competitors, such as Perplexity or the new ChatGPT search engine.
Google prepares major updates
What is already certain is that Google is preparing major changes for its search engine. As we mentioned in a previous article, recently, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the firm, announced profound changes starting next year. “I think you’ll be surprised, even in early 2025, what kinds of newer things Search can do compared to what it is today.”he declared.
Although Google has many activities today, the search engine remains its flagship product. In the third quarter, the “Google Search and others” category generated revenue of $49.38 billion, out of a total of $88.26 billion. But currently, this product is threatened by new competitors. Additionally, Google lost its antitrust lawsuit in the United States. And American justice could announce the end of the agreements which allow Google to position itself as the default search engine on Safari and Mozilla Firefox, or even a separation between Google and its Chrome browser.
