Since their launch in 2021, the AirTag has become an essential accessory for many travelers. Indeed, in the event of lost luggage, Apple’s Bluetooth beacon increases the chances that you will find it, thanks to Apple’s network-based location system. And currently, the firm is preparing an update that will further increase the chances of finding lost luggage.

You will be able to share the location of the AirTag with other people

As you may already know, Apple is currently beta testing iOS 18.2, an update that will be rolled out to iPhones later. And according to an article published by our colleagues at MacRumors, the list of new features in this version of iOS includes a new feature for the Locate application, which allows you to obtain the location of lost AirTags.

In essence, this new feature will allow you to share the location of your AirTag with a third party, law enforcement, or an airline. According to MacRumors’ explanations, it is possible to generate a link, which can be shared with another person so that they can access the location of the AirTag. This link is valid for one week and expires automatically when the AirTag is returned to its owner. Furthermore, when you send a link, Locate will also allow you to know how many people have opened it.

Waiting for the new version?

Otherwise, it should be noted that rumors are already circulating about the AirTag 2. According to a publication by Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg, this new version could arrive in the first half of 2025. And it is possible that Apple will equip it with AirTag 2 with a new chip that would allow for more precise location. For the moment, this is a rumor that should be treated with caution. But, given that the first version of the AirTag was released in 2021, it would make sense that Apple would consider offering a new model.

  • Apple is preparing an iOS update that will introduce a new feature for the Find My app
  • This will allow you to share the location of your AirTag with other people, so that they can help you find your lost item.
  • Rumors are also circulating about a new version of the AirTag which could arrive next year
