Apple launched its most futuristic device yet in February 2024: the Vision Pro. Despite being a niche product, with an excessively high price tag, and its launch having been staggered since, in fact, it hasn’t even arrived in Spain yet, it continues to generate a lot of excitement due to its potential.

And the truth is that, according to rumors, Tim Cook’s team isn’t planning on giving up on their idea of turning them into one of the products of the future. According to a report published by Chinese media outlet IT Home, the second generation of the Apple Vision Pro has already entered production for desktop devices, which means its launch could materialize later this year.

When is the Vision Pro 2 coming out?

It’s also true that these rumors should be treated with caution, as there’s still no official confirmation from the Cupertino company, but everything points to the fact that the machinery is already in motion and suppliers are working against the clock to meet delivery deadlines.

The report notes that some key components of the new model, such as panels, casings, and internal circuitry, have already begun production in large quantities. This would fit with Apple’s recent moves, which reportedly stopped producing the current model at the end of 2024, accumulating enough inventory to cover demand well into 2025. This ensures that the transition to the new model will be faster and smoother than many expected.

The downside is that those hoping for major changes in this second generation won’t get them. The Apple Vision Pro 2 will be a minor iteration, with few aesthetic changes. In fact, analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman have already predicted that this new version will be more of a technical tweak before a more ambitious redesign. The biggest change would be its processor, which would now integrate the M5 chip, offering a notable leap in performance compared to the original model. Otherwise, Apple would use many of the already available parts from the first Vision Pro to reduce costs and efficiently manage excess inventory.

As for timing, while IT Home is targeting a late 2025 launch, other experts like Gurman have suggested the device could arrive anytime between the fall of this year and the spring of 2026. In short, it’s most likely to hit stores between October 2025 and April 2026.

Of course, these rumors require patience, as IT Home isn’t exactly a source with an impeccable track record when it comes to Apple leaks, so all this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, the fact that several sources agree on the timeframe and device features lends considerable credibility to the scenario being proposed.

The arrival of the Vision Pro 2 may seem modest if limited to a chip upgrade and minor optimizations, but don’t underestimate what it represents. We’re talking about a product that marks the beginning of a new category for Apple, and any step forward, no matter how small, could be key to defining the future of spatial computing. If you’re thinking about making the jump to mixed reality, you might want to wait a few more months: what’s coming could substantially improve the experience without changing the essence of the product.
