This isn’t the first store we’ve seen recently that’s set to disappear. Apple has announced the permanent closure of its store in the Northbrook Court shopping center in Chicago on April 26, something that may initially raise eyebrows.
However, there’s an explanation. Apple doesn’t usually open many stores for one reason: they look for a location that consistently delivers good performance. Closing a store afterward doesn’t give them a good reputation, and that’s something they want to avoid. However, in this case, they won’t be able to.
Will they close the Apple Store in Spain?
As we mentioned, Apple seeks out key locations for its stores, as well as cities, which means that in Spain, for example, only seven have one or more stores, leaving the rest without a storefront and having to purchase products online or from alternative retailers.
For now, no store closures are expected, but why has this happened in Chicago? Well, it’s simple: this Apple Store is located in a shopping mall, which, despite being very successful in its day, has lost almost all of its businesses and customers, leaving this Apple Store very lonely and in a bad position +qz9v.

At this point, and knowing that it’s difficult for everything to return to normal, Apple has decided to close it, already considering another location for it, although nothing is known yet.
In the case of Spain, things are different, since, except in Valladolid and some other specific locations, the Apple Stores are not located inside shopping centers, but in very strategic areas such as Puerta del Sol in Madrid, a place that, no matter what happens, will always have traffic, and that will avoid this type of situations.
Regarding new openings, it is another complicated issue, since they are going down the same path, and betting on a new location without knowing if it will be permanent is something that does not convince Apple, so it is true that we could end up seeing an Apple Store in Coruña, within one of the largest shopping centers in Spain, and a community that does not have official stores, but it is something quite suppository, since there are no plans to open new ones in our country, at least for now.

In short, all the changes to these stores are based on their location, not on whether they actually make more or less money. Apple’s goal is to ensure they’re never empty, as it creates a bad image. So they’ll think twice before opening a store inside a shopping center they’re not sure will last for decades. Valladolid is in turmoil, and its Apple Store is the most likely to close, if they ever eliminate one in our country.
And you, what do you think about this? Do you think they should open more even though they’re not always full and in the best location, or is it just a good marketing strategy? Leave us a comment with your opinion.
